Smooth, refined and tasty. Can't stop drinking it.

The bottle I obtained at Changi Duty Free was spicy, went down the throat a little harder than I expected. Would still prefer the Balvenie 16yo triple cask for beginner drinkers.

first timer with this dram and its very smooth and rich, with a soft palate and honey fruity sweetness , great to enjoy after meals or with friends.

What year is this bottle? 12 years or 15 years

Where can I purchase this in Vancouver ,Canada. First got it at YVR. Perfect taste for mild whiskey.

The select oak always has a place on my shelf, a great speyside with plenty of flavour to enjoyed. A nice smooth dram with good flavours that last on the taste buds. My bottle is half way down and I will be picking another one up next time I'm through duty free.

I have tasted both the good and the bad versions of this...worlds apart...Macallan should do smth about its consistency...

I was in Scotland a couple of years back and grabbed a bottle from duty free on the way back home. It was about the best bottle of anything I've tried in the sub 100 bucks category... amazingly smooth and heavy on the vanilla. just beautiful. And then about a year later I saw a bottle while visiting San Francisco and immediately grabbed it with a smile as I looked forward to experiencing more of a truly excellent experience... but this second bottle was like a completely different scotch. harsh and peppery with little redeeming qualities. It's only two samples so I won't state it's a trend or anything, but my working theory is that the Scots keep the good batches for themselves and send the lesser batches overseas hehe. Perhaps they're in cahoots with the tourist board and it's a conspiracy to get tourists to revisit Scotland hehe.

I'm a relative newbie to whisky, however, I do like this. It's not as good as the 21 yo Old Pultney I tried recently but it is still enjoyable. It has a good mouth feel and a lovely long finish but is let down by a lack of depth that I would have expected from a Macallan (similar to a lot of NAS whiskys unfortunately) and quite a sour nose. I would recommend getting it if it's discounted but there are better whiskys for the money.Good for NAS whisky but nothing special

This doesn't burn going down. Nice and warming at the bottom. Smells like a protein fart. Average tasting for the price. Palate and finish are somewhat correct but the nose straight sucks. Choking it down because i'm deployed and don't have any Laphroig, Balvenie or any of my other go to's.

I tried a sample at a Duty Free Shop wondering what to buy for my favorite Uncle. It had a slight bite when I first to a sip but the finish was great!

Well I cant say that I agree with a lot of the negative reviews, I had my first experience with this gem sitting on a ocean front patio in Cabo, was a nice change and I had to track a bottle down on my trip home. I very much enjoyed the earthy oak flavor that teased me long after I was done... great finish... I will continue purchasing this when I get near a location that sells it since I cant find it in my home country.... very much suggest everyone tries it at least once

chocolate, on the sweet side, and a little oak. smooth. but not much else going for it.

Wow!! Either the people reviewing got a bad batch or I got a really good one?? I don´t know. I really like tihis whisky, to me its like the "AMBER" but eith nose and character. The finish is so long that I could htat I could write a poem on it. Its so lovely that it has become a reference point to me. I definetely like it and do not understand how other reviews can say it is bad as I have had similat Scotches that have excellent reviews. At the end of the day, MACALLAN Iis MACALLAN and to me it is worthy of the name…

I agree to some extent with the more critical reviews of this Scotch. The nose is a little sour. That said, it isn't off-putting. The mouthfeel and flavor make up for that minor concern, in my opinion. Perhaps being a fan of bourbon helps, as well.Since I received this as a gift, I can't really say whether I would purchase this for myself. There are other Scotches that are definitely better. And I do feel like this Scotch may be slightly overpriced. But overall, The Macallan Select Oak is a good single malt.
16th March 2014
Whisky isn't of a great caliber but the sulfur and absolute negative reviews have no place. Different tasting, a bit sourish, probably from the bourbon casks. By no means sweet, but pleasant tasting. The heat "explosion" when it hits the stomach is nice, doesn't burn in the throat at all.Maybe you guys got a bad batch is all i can say.....
10th March 2014
Quite agree with above reviews...avoid at all cost!Szarik

nose: Sulfur. Rotten eggs. Bad.palate: a bit of woody taste, then the bad sulfur taste hits you.finish: long and bad.Don't buy.
25th November 2013
Has a extremely off putting sulfuric nose, so bad you cannot nose it, taste is just ok but nothing memorable at all here, tastes like a very average whisky and hard to believe it is a Macallan. After several attempts to "like" it with a die hard Macallan fan we both gave up and couldn't get past 100ml.
8th November 2013
stay away from this one wiskey lovers. not giving age, and it's a blended they Call singel malt. i mean it's blended from single malt casks. what a joke. macallan used to be My fav, but no more. in fact no more bottle Will come into My house.
27th October 2013
Sulfuric notes spread out until one quarter of bottle , maybe because of sherry cask, but after this a great flavour and nose grew: chocolate, sherry and vamilla.its really creamy and smooth. Definitely a stunning choice.
10th September 2013
Very nice on the nose, almonds, wallnuts, vamilla, litlle citrus. Medium bodie . Great on the palate, sweet, Apple pie, marzipan, long finishing, definitely worth a purchase!
