A 53 year old bottling from cask no. 609, distilled at the Macallan distillery in 1948, a sherry hogshead-matured cask strength bottling.
The nose is of medium-body and quite rich. There are notes of cut herbs and soft peat, dried oak and sultanas with a touch of spice. A leafy green character emerges with pine oils. The palate is medium-bodied and well-balanced. There is a good sweetness with a gentle peat note. There is a soft wood smoke with cut flowers and barley sugars. The finish is soft and long with a wistful smoke.
