Behold, the second release from The Lakes Distillery's Whiskymaker's Reserve series! The single malt has been matured in a combo of Pedro Ximénez, red wine and bourbon casks, whereas the first Whiskymaker's release was only matured in red wine and Pedro Ximénez casks. Eventually, the English whisky was bottled at cask strength, a generous 60.9% ABV. The Whiskymaker’s Reserve is an artistic exploration of oak and blending, and you can expect big fruity flavours in this one.
Nose: Golden syrup, chocolate raisin and orange peel, with rich treacle aromas.
Palate: Lots of oak spice coming through, balanced by creamy vanilla and white chocolate, a hint of grass and oily malt.
Finish: Vanilla oak battles it out among prune and raisin, with a hint of praline on the finish.

N: Rose petal polo mints. P: Washy mouthfeel, bubbly, needs air to manage the cask strength, which in its initial blast is sherried before an overwhelming force of white pepper ginger. A: Orange dark chocolate with pleasant sherbet brings down the curtain. No painful alcohol given the strength.

Probably the most undrinkable whisky I have ever drank, and after trying this I don't think I will try any English whisky again, I'll stick to Scotch and Japanese!

When whisky is a journey as it is for me this really is a stop I had to take a whole weekend enjoying. For a malt as young as this to be so complex is just crazy! How have they done it? Simply liquid Christmas cake in a glass! Can't wait for No3!!

Bigger nose than the Life of Brian. Massive depth of flavour development for one so young - quality dried fruits, spices, restrained sherried loveliness, chocolate biscuit, subtle orange. Eclipses the No:1 owing to the longer finish that is as enjoyable as tasting it afresh - it's a non vicious circle. To sip, or not to sip....
