The Glenlivet 15 Bottling Note

This 15 year old expression from The Glenlivet, was matured in French Limousin Oak casks. Limousin Oak is a popular choice for maturation of Cognac.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

The nose is rich and oaked. There are notes of chewy resinous wood with a well-balanced acidity. Fudge and Madeira with apple crumble with calvados. The palate is full and rich with winter spice; cinnamon and cloves, thick oak with developing aridity. The finish is long and dry with a peppery note.

Reviews for The Glenlivet 15 Year Old French Oak Reserve
One of my staples
This is my go to non Islay whisky. It is smooth with plenty of flavour. I wish it was greater than 40%.

Great whisky
Absolutely fantastic for the price. I really really enjoy this whisky. Better than many 70 or 80 quid bottles I've tried. Love it.

Doesn’t live up to the nose
Great nose, gives off lovely notes.

Let down on the taste, very short lived and sadly chill filtered hence the lack of flavour/punch.

Not a bad dram but definitely much better out there for the price.

A bit bland
I found it a bit bland. There is better out there for the same price or even less if one is prepared to put in the effort.

A Decent 15
This is pretty much a go-to for me after I have had a dram or two of something a little more expensive.

Solid 15Y For the Price
Smooth as Glenlivet is with oak heavy finish but (like the Double Oak 12Y) not big in depth. Certainly not a memorable dram. Extremely approachable and drinkable though.

Solid 15 yr, great value
This is one of the malts I keep going back to, really enjoy the influence of the French oak casks.

Color is a deep gold, amber. Nose is fruity, I get raisins and ripening apples, oak is rich. On the palate I can taste dried fruits, cinnamon, but not overpowering. Finish is where I think this one shines (I thinks so anyway). Nice long dry finish, peppery, honey sweetness comes through, a bit more oak, at times some caramel. Leaves a long lasting satisfying flavor despite have a medium body feel.

Only wish that ABV was a bit higher.

Mmmmm, French oak....
My favourite Speyside sofar. Pure oak, no sherry, port or other winey nonsense.
Let it sit in the glass for 15 minutes, but take a smell every now and then, and notice how it wakes up.
From the classic Speyside fruity (sherry) smell, it evolves to a lively explosion of wood, vanilla, toffee, tobacco, banana and so on.
