The Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog in New York City is home to the largest collection of Irish whiskey in North America, so it was only a matter of time before it got its very own Irish whiskey! By teaming up with Darryl McNally, master distiller at The Dublin Liberties, they have created this excellent expression. It's based around a 5 year old whiskey matured in ex-bourbon barrels, which has then been finished in “half-sized” virgin American oak barrels.
Cedar, toasted brown sugar, apricot-filled pastries.
Caramel and vanilla sit up front, with notes of nutmeg, milky coffee and macadamia developing in the background.
Lingering waxy fruit and a tickle of black pepper.
Best Irish whiskey I have had in a very long while. I can see how your lads came up with apricot filled pastries. To me it's more well aged marmalade with a mouthfeel that's influenced by that sense one gets from brioche because this whiskey possesses that sort of feeling in the mouth, on the tongue and the "after it's gone" stage. Too many Irish whiskies lack this character. This whiskey could be mistaken for a pure malt and, at its price point, offers decent value for money because the aftertaste lingers long
After all the reviews I was really keen to try this newcomer, but alas, it left me disappointed Its not bad, its just not great either It tastes a little young and could do with some more maturing There is no complexity to it, its just blended whisky, plain and simple There are better alternatives out there
Nothing will beat having a dram of this tipple at the Dead Rabbit Bar. Excellent
Oops, maybe I had hunted too many rabbits that night. Best enjoyed neat or you may add one teaspoon of water only. This rabbit is my new pet.
What a surprise! Excellent Irish whisky. Smooth and rounded taste. This whiskey makes me smile and enjoy my life. Dead monkey is now my new pet.
