Teerenpeli is the first commercially available single malt whisky from Finland. The distillery is part of a group of restaurants that also own a brewery, so obviously the best thing to do next was to open a distillery. This whisky is eight years old and is bottled from a selection of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks at 43% abv. This a great offering from Finland and undoubtedly is one to watch in the future!
Nose: The nose is very floral with light citrus notes and hints of dessicated coconut.
Palate: The Bourbon cask is more dominant on the palate with notes of Acacia honey and vanilla pods.
Finish: The finish is fairly long for a whisky of this age, with notes of caramel and a touch of peat.
Overall: This is a great young whisky which promises exciting things for the future, try it young while you can.

I found this to be a well balanced, flavorfull yet never overpowering single malt. Indeed a very good first whisky from a young distillery. Compared to Swedish Mackmyra, this is an outstanding product. Expensive, sure, but I rather buy something I like even if it cost more.

Didn't taste that good and the whole design of the product was farily bad too. Trying to be something it's obviously not!

For a Finnish 8 year old whiskey, I felt it compared very well to 8-12 year old scotch. My wife (who is Finnish) found this and bought me a bottle for Christmas. I honestly didn't care much for it on first sip, but that could have been because I tasted it after trying the other bottle she got me, which is one of my favorites. After a few tastes, I very much like this whiskey. It's got a long, warming finish, which makes sense for something from Finland. Can you get an older single malt scotch for yes? Absolutely. But I'mn glad I got to try this.

I'm a Finn, but objectively speaking - this is a good, better than average whiskey. Smooth, silky, warm. No strong attack, no disfiguration in the aftertaste. If they only made smoky whiskeys, I'd be a regular customer. But still, I'm going to buy a second bottle - if for nothing else, just to give foreigners positive country-image.

"Only 50 cl and no older than 8 years, it is not reasonably priced."The Whisky, however is quite good, but you should consider these things:The market for whisky in Finland is not very large, so the amount produced is small, which makes it more expensive. It is also much more difficult to sell it abroad than Scottish whiskies, because no-one has ever heard of Finnish whisky, even though it would be better than many Scottish.

I had never heard about Finnish whisky before. Pleasent surprise, delicate smooth taste. Promise of even something better after a while. Worth revisiting.
