The flagship expression from Dublin's Teeling, the Small Batch Irish whiskey is made with a blend of malt and grain whiskeys, initially aged in ex-Bourbon barrels. Following that, the Teeling folks moved the whiskey over to casks that had previously held Central American rum! In these casks, the whiskey had an extra rest for up to 12 months, before being bottled at 46% ABV without any chill-filtration. Wonderfully full-flavoured, with plenty of fresh fruit, creamy vanilla and lively spice notes to enjoy!
Cut grass and orange blossom. Allspice, hints of vanilla, apple pie and blackberries.
Spiced, rich palate with rose petal jelly and lemon curd. Creamy vanilla, hints of dried herbs and cinnamon.
Floral, herbal finish. Caramel on the tail.
A deliciously creamy, spicy and rich Irish blend.
Wasn't creamy or rich-tasting at all, nor smooth. Not sure how those words came to be used about it! Try a sample first before you spend on a whole bottle.
I am just starting my whiskey journey. I picked up a bottle of this and thoroughly enjoyed my first taste. It is different from the other Irish Whiskeys I have tried this far but i really enjoyed it.
I last reviewed this when I bought a bottle of Teeling Small Batch, 21st June 2022. Now, it must depend on the batch and which Rum Cask it gets to mature in, because last year I said it was harsh and the Rum overpowered the Whiskey. However, I thought I would give it another try (as it was reduced in a Flash Sale) and this bottle was completely different. It tastes lovely, with a hint of Rum coming through. As I said last year I like Rum and I like Whiskey, and with just a hint of Rum coming through this Whiskey is no longer harsh and tastes delightful.
Smells like Kahlua, tastes not like whiskey at all. Creamy, sweet, floral, weird. Nothing like any Irish whiskey I've ever had before. Glad I had a shot in the pub, rather than a bottle.
Normally I am a big fan of Irish Whiskeys but this one is a no for me. The " notes " of rum punches you straight in the nose and mouth. A harsh finish and not smooth at all.
