Talisker 10 Year Old Bottling Note
A classic Island whisky from the Isle of Skye. Aged for a minimum of 10 years in American oak casks, this welcome member of Diageo's Classic Malts series has been recognised numerous times for its excellence. Immensely satisfying stuff, with whiffs of warm peat blending with coastal air, balanced by orchard fruit and juicy barley. A spectacular after dinner dram.
It was an Editor's Choice at Whisky Magazine, a gold medal winner at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2017 and was awarded 'Best Islands Single Malt' at the 2017 World Whiskies Awards.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose: A fresh and fragrant nose. Through thick, pungent smoke comes sweet pear and apple peels, with pinches of maritime salt from kippers, seaweed.
Palate: It's a bonfire of peat crackling with black pepper, with a touch of brine and dry barley. A welcome delivery of orchard fruit provides a delicate and beautiful balance.
Finish: In a long finish, bonfire embers toast malt and crystallise a sugary underlay.

Talisker 10 Year Old Reviews
Drop in standard
Sorry but really poor. Used to love this but unsure what's happened. Compared it to JW green label and it tasted very rough and unrefined.

Great nose but the quality is fading
Talisker 10 still has one of the most inviting noses in all of the Scotch I've sampled. However, the actual juice is becoming very tired. I fear recent batches have been relying on 2nd/3rd re-fill casks which is robbing all character from the whisky. Then at the bottling plant, enough E150a is added to make an Oompa-Loompa plush. A subtle amount isn't noticeable but this quantum leaves an unmistakable burnt sugar note and leaves me with an instant headache.
Shame. I hope things improve as unfortunately Talisker in the IB market is rarer than hen's teeth.

The new version is nothing like the old
The new version is a disaster and nothing like the previous. I’ve tried this and the Skye in the new versions and I personally can’t drink them. What a shame. They used to be great.

Coastal experience
You really do get a feeling for the geography in this one , peaty but not overly peaty , offset by aniseed and apricot notes, what really impressed me the most though was the cold slightly menthol sea notes, I live on the northern coast so this was a familiar experience. Slightly rugged in the mouth with a welcome burn on the finish.

My default whisky
I like to keep about 10 whiskies on the go at any one time, but the Talisker 10 is my go to standard that I am sure to always have in my collection. Something about it keeps me coming back for more.

it's a classic
Wonderful dram somewhere between Highland and Islay. Fruity with just the right amount of smoke. Kind of best of both worlds. A classic that should be in every bar.

overrated
compared to laphroaig 10 - this is less flavorful, not speaking smoke only. This bites.

Island Dream
One of my all time favorites, I'm having a dram now to welcome in the New Year. Living in the desert, it reminds me of younger days on the Jersey shore (New Jersey, USA that is...LOL). Lovely maritime nose and flavors meeting summer fruit near a beach bonfire. Take me away.

Had a small dram to accompany a salmon steak. Outstanding.

Fantastic scotch , will always have a spot in my homebar
Talisker 10 has been on my wishlist for a while now and I finally got the chance as my choice for my Thanksgiving scotch this year to try it. Fantastic! Not nearly as smokey as ardbeg 10, reminds me a little bit of oban 14, but this is just a really well balanced scotch that is not going to break the bank. This one will now always have a spot in my homebar.
