English Whisky 11 Cask Bottling Note

This was distilled at St George's Distillery in Norfolk in March 2008, and it was aged in 4 casks (numbers 646, 647, 648 and 649) before bottling in May 2011. This is a heavily peated edition (the first ever heavily peated English whisky) and it was bottled at natural cask strength.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Citrussy and smoky with notes of crème caramel, malt, spicy peat and a little toffee apple.

Palate: Creamy, sweet and spicy with notes of oily peat smoke and custard. Some pannacotta, sultanas, and cloves develop.

Finish: Subtle peat smoke smoulders away into the finish. Long and spicy.

English Whisky Co. Chapter 11 - Cask Strength Reviews

Not only did this pass my Islay-biased taste test with flying colours, I took another bottle over to a European meetup of nerds, where it was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone - Dutch, German, Czech, Russian. It was one of only a few bottles that arrived full and left empty in one evening. They were all quite bemused that it was made in England, but enjoyed it nevertheless.

I've since sent a bottle to my Dad (in Devon) and he's been showing it off to all of his mates. "Look, this one's English!" Incredibly enjoyable, brilliantly balanced, peaty whisky. It'll be a crying shame when it runs out.

Bought this bottle two years ago and only just opened. Didn't realise what I was missing. Having a fondness for smokey varieties like the Western isles this one is up there with the best. Smooth and excellent finish. Will revisit in August for another bottle. Hope it is still available.
