Longrow Red 12 Year Old - Fresh Pinot Noir Cask Finish

Longrow Red 12YO Bottling Note

A 12 year old Longrow single malt Scotch whisky from the fantastic Springbank distillery in the Campbeltown region. This one has been allowed to finish for a year in French Pinot Noir wine casks before being bottled at 52.9% ABV, resulting in intense fruit notes from all angles. Loads of red berry notes here, with a touch of orange and familiar Longrow smokiness too.

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

Nuclear...

I thought Lagavulin was "the bomb", but Longrow is nuclear. Highly recommended.

Truly Perfect

I agree with the comment below. A perfect marriage indeed. The best redwine finish i ever tasted.

Unforgettable

Had a chance to enjoy a 6cl sample of this. And "unforgettable" is indeed the best summary I could think of. Because the combination of Longrow's earthy cigar box notes with the influence of Pinot Noir cask has produced such an interesting, excellent and irresistibly tasty experience that it will simply stay in your memory for a very long time. How on earth have they pulled out this marriage so perfectly? Sublime work. Reminds me of Port Charlotte PC12. Highly recommended of course, if you can find it.

Durian fruit

Initial classic rich longrow with all the usual elements & an enticing subtle smoke. As it develeops there are tropical fruits, toasted coconut, custard and a rather unwelcome strawberry opalfruits aroma. The finish totally lacks any resemblence to longrow (or even scotch for that matter) - imagine walking through a night market in Singapore; an overpowering aroma of durian fruit.

Longrow it aint. There are reasons why Whisky is rarely aged in wine casks (which are much more readily available than bourbon or sherry)

Tighten your seat belts....

What this whisky lacks in 'class' it makes up for in charisma - You can discern the unmistakeable smokey richness of Longrow from 12" away. There is a fleeting glimpse of Pinot Noir at the start, perhaps pears but no red fruit, and then the Longrow blasts it away.

Nothing reserved about this whisky, its a full on experience.

It's good

I can only echo previous reviews, syrup smoky tang on the nose, summer fruits and toffee on the palate, long peppery finish. Very nice.

Yep, I'll go with the previous review, it's glorious!

Classic Springbank flavour profile as its base, but the lovely fruitiness, and the waves of peat smoke that drift through the nose to the finish make this a very special, very interesting malt. It's like sipping a story, and I can listen all evening. Superb.

Absolute stunner

Not bought from here as it wasnt available on release day but wow, what a dram, huge fruity syruppy nose with a cigar like smokey tang. palate sherbet, summer fruits, caramel and a long peppery smokey and smooth finish with a briny undertone, the port finish last year was good but this is stunning, a masterpiece
