Filey Bay Second Release Bottling Note

It's the second release of the awesome Filey Bay single malt from the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery! The marriage of malts is fairly similar to its predecessor, with a selection of pot and column still distillates aged in bourbon casks alongside a single sherry cask. Just 6,000 bottles were released at 46% ABV.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Some orange peel, blueberry muffin and lemon meringue pie, with a side of barley sugar.

Palate: Citrus ice cream, cooked apple and honey, with vanilla cream, and a drizzle of maple syrup.

Finish: Floral honey, toasted nuts and cinnamon.

Filey Bay Single Malt Whisky (Second Release) Reviews

Disappointment so far

I agree with the comments below, I find this Whisky bland and boring, it just needs something. I have only had 2 drams out of the bottle so far, so Once oxygen enters the bottle and overtime, I am hoping the Whisky will improve. I will make on my first impressions, but when I have drink more, I will revise if needed.

Major disappointment

I’m not often overly critical on any bottle of whisky but I’m afraid I have to be with this. I’ve recently been opening my bottles of English whisky I’ve had sitting around for a few years and I have been hugely impressed with what I’ve had from The Lakes Distillery, The Cotswolds Distillery and The English Whisky Distillery and given the fairly hefty price for this Filey Bay I had pretty high expectations for it but my God has it fallen short. It is young, that has to be expected I know but it really shows and there are no redeeming features of the spirit character, it’s frankly boring and unadventurous and it just is not working this young, still too much new make rawness, found it quite hot as well. Cotswolds on the other hand do get away with it, their spirit character is much more lively and interesting and they get the bourbon cask characteristics shining through so they're obviously using fresher/better quality casks. This is just no where near the same league as the other English whiskies and yet it’s more expensive. My advice would be stay away unless you happen to get it significantly cheaper than the fifty odd quid it’s currently going for.

Great Refreshing Summer Dram

First time trying anything from the Spirit of Yorkshire and I was impressed. It is light and refreshing, fruity with a nice balance of sweetness. Becomes a touch creamy with a touch of water.
