SPEY Tenné Reviews

A wonderful surprise.

I have to be honest and say that I initially bought this purely because of the nice bottle. Opening the bottle a year later i was rewarded with a very nice surprise. The nose is pleasant but a bit understated, malty bread along with syrupy dark fruits and a floral honey sweetness. The fist sip is is intensely flavourful. Malty bread, dark fruits, stewed apples and a floral honey sweetness. There is that distinct mineral sweetness you find in mountain spring water, as well as a slightly nutty quality. The port definitely has a large influence, impacting a rich full flavoured sweetness of dark fruits and berries. The finish is floral honey sweetness, musty malt, mineral water, a touch of oak vanilla tannins and something that reminded me of roasted hazelnuts. The mouthfeel is creamy and substantial. This will please the crowd, while being complex enough to entertain the malt aficionados, perhaps a good bottle for the family Christmas table. Since i bought it the price has fallen a bit, and i think at the price point its at now, it is a very good deal. If you like port and the Speyside flavours, or you just want a pleasant break from that golden tar they make on Islay, I can highly recommend this malt.

Not too bad. A tad fiery

As someone who grew up drinking the likes of Paddy Irish whiskey, I found this one to be quite nice after a while but just a tad harsh at first. Not a bad drop for the price but happy to try something else instead next.

Well worth the money spent

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this whisky. Initial taste after opening was unimpressive so I let the glass sit for awhile. As I thought it got better and better. Nice but not overwhelming port wine flavor. I enjoy that bit of sweetness. Nice legs, and mid length finish. Overall a very enjoyable whisky. And at the price it’s even better. I try not to compare dissimilar styles of whisky so take this for what it is, a very nice, honest whisky at a very reasonable price.

For people who like strong port cask influence

Unbalanced, harsh and young whisky with excessive port influence. I bought this based on positive reviews and was just disappointed. I didn't expect it to be this harsh and cheap tasting. The review on May 23rd 2020 and July 4th 2020 were accurate. The reviewer on May 15, 2021 is an insensitive fool. It was uncalled for to insult someone who has a different preference.

Fabulous Whisky

An amazing and beautiful dram for the price point. The post shines through beautifully without distracting from the whisky. Real fruity and smooth on the palate.

Nowhere near the colour on the image but..

Can only assume the person who reviewed this 4 july 2020 had covid and had lost their sense of taste. If you nose this blindfolded you would identify it as a delicate vintage port. It's definitely whisky when you drink it and there's something akin to the flavour of those old xmas chocolate liqueur cherries about it, but none of it is an assault on your senses. Lick your lips with this one, flavour lingers longest there! Just a very pleasant drink for a very reasonable price.

An excellent malt for a reasonable price.

I tried this whisky years ago at Soho Whisky Club in London and it always left an impression on me. A nice juicy bit of port richness with an flavouring of strawberry liquorice. I think at this price it’s a good bargain.

Excellent dram

Can't believe the people that don't like this, mind you some are only happy being hit over the head with a clod of peat.
This is good, this is very very good!

Lack depth = Really?

I simply cannot understand at any level the review which states this dram ‘lacks depth’. If anything there’s too much depth! An extremely in your face port based dram. Never took to it at first but after revisiting its shelf position I now love it. Bought another today. Outstanding value.

Best whisky I tried so far

I drove through Scotland tasting as many whisky brands as I could and this one really stood out. The low price is just the cherry on top
