Speyburn 10 Bottling Note

This 10 year old single malt was a gold medal winner at the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. A classic from the Speyburn distillery.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: A fruity nose with hints of orange, mandarin and cooking apple. A touch of oak, peppermint and spice.

Palate: A light, gentle palate with soft malt, sweet, toasty barley with liquorice and dried herbs.

Finish: Just a touch of smoke trails off on the finish.

Speyburn 10 Year Old Reviews

Wonderful Whisky

Excellent whisky, smooth and very drinkable, only trouble is it doesn't seem to last as long as other brands !! I feel sure the contents must evaporate if you turn your eyes away !

Very impressed with Speyburn 10, certainly a 5 star Scotch in my book

I bought a bottle this evening, just drunk my first dram: the 10 y/o is very easy on the palate, notes of toasted buttery cream, with a smooth finish which I prefer in my Whisky. Love it and remarkably impressed because I typically do not like Scotch aged in bourbon casks.

Nothing special

Gives you a headache after more than a couple of drams, it’s ok, not awful but there’s better for the £25-30 mark.

Average malt with a strange finish

Not bad for under £25. Quite complex for its age but the finish is reminiscent of the smell of a hospital

Damn good damn cheap too!

This stuff surprised me its rather good...and damn cheap too. always nice. Its a gentle malt with a predominantly sweet profile but a little salt and peat which is nice. I will buy it again

Almost top notch

Nice light aroma daffodils and buttercups, very minor alcohol burn. Buttery sweat shortbread back of the tongue bistcuitness. Drank half a bottle in one session without realising. A good whisky.

Top malt!!!

Easy to drink, perfect for sharing with friends.

Delicious and Friendly

This got me into scotch from bourbon. So refreshing poured over a couple rocks! Barley malt esters that harken to a good helles lager.

Pleasant and fresh

With floral notes and real cloudy lemonade on the nose..continues with a floral taste, nothing harsh, light and fresh with a slight rubbery finish..not much depth but an easy dram.

Good value for a Ten year old.

I can only presume our American cousins look for different things. ( other comments below) I’d seen a whisky guide book explaining that this was hard to locate in the UK as it was being aggressively sold in the U.S.
So what do I think, as a UK purchaser.!
Well, how you take it affects everything. Just on its own, (who would) it must be a little fierce, with water, it opens and mellows to allow soft and interesting flavours to develope.
With ice, it is very easy going and perhaps doesn’t stand up to the temperature.
At this price, I like it, a touch dryer than I prefer but certainly a change from my usual, so sampling for the first time, good, mellow flavours, I like the light colour, certainly better than paint stripper, presumably, as I’ve never felt the need to try that!
