Seaweed & Aeons 10yo Bottling Note

This right here is a 10 year old single malt from an undisclosed distillery on Islay, with 25% of it having been finished in first-fill Oloroso sherry octaves, and bestowed the decidedly descriptive name Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire. If those four words (and three ampersands) aren't quite enough of an explanation of what this expression is all about, here are a few more: stripped-back, smoky, complex, a bit sherried, balanced, coastal. Yeah, that should do it. Great for people who love uncompromising Islay whisky and sans-serif fonts.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Rich, powerful sherry with a well-integrated core of peat. Solid.

Palate: Well-balanced but extremely forceful on delivery. The sherry makes itself known in a really good way.

Finish: Red apple sweetness gives way to oaken-vanilla goodness and fades elegantly into the embers of a chargrilled well-aged steak.

Overall: A thoroughly impressive dram. One would be forgiven for mistaking it for an OB with another 5 years of age on it.

Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire 10 Year Old Reviews

Excellent for a one-off. Who cares where it's from?

Gentler than l expected. Unmistakably lslay, with a soft tangy briny mouthfeel. This is a delicious dram for a 10 yr old. Love it!

chewy peaty salty briny monster. Old fashioned rustic rough as a bears bottom islay malt,
sherry and olorosso sweetness meets a rich cigar ashtray, charry scorched oak cask sitting in a west coast rock pool. Splendid

Love the name (s).

What’s in a name… well with this I have no idea.

I don’t get it.

It’s tasty and well priced. What’s the catch here? Yes ok taste is always subjective and something “cheap” can taste “expensive”….

As a fan of west coastal whisky I was referred to this and told “you must try if it’s the last thing you ever do”. The last thing I ever do I always considered would be a bit more adventurous with a side splash of playboy mansion but in for a penny in for a pound.

Tested it

In my humble opinion it’s a cross between a Laphroaig / Talisker / Bowmore / Juru Yes I know Talisker / Juru aren’t Islay but I am passing opinion on taste and smell.

If I was given a shot of this I would have probably said it’s from Laphroaig and then when told no I would say it’s from one of the others.

But where is it from - no idea.

Would I buy again - absolutely.

What it says in the label. Absolutely knockout at the price … on my 3rd bottle.

I've just bought two more bottles. Enough said.

Good overall but would be better with a stronger smoke punch.

Was gifted this for Christmas last year and only recently opened it. After around a quarter of the bottle I've came to my conclusions. Definitely notes of brine there however, the smoke is rather subtle with contrasting sherry notes. Overall, a good whisky for the price and one that could easily be polished off with a friend in an evening. Not quite the usual smokey punch that Islay distilleries provide but still worth a try.

Just opened my bottle this evening. A fine and exceptionally smooth whisky with incredibly complex flavours. One to savour.
