Lagavulin Distillery Only Bottling Note

A very special Lagavulin, this "distillery only" bottling is made with the remnant of whisky from a previous bottling run of Distiller's Edition. It is then re-casked and left for a few extra years.

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed info and/or photos just get in touch!

Lagavulin Distillery Only Reviews

One of the best Lagavulin

After the tour in 2010 I asked the tourguide whether there was a non standard Lagavulin for sale at the distillery: nope, none. A colleague behind the bar however told us there was something special, tried it and bought some bottles, this is for me one to die for, that good? yes, that good! IMHO this is one of the best expressions they've made the last decades. Found one? buy it!

An Outstanding Release

Is this still available anywhere? One of the best Lagavulin releases available at any price. There is a complex dryness that really contrasts with the sweet and slightly briny oily undertones, wonderful layers of smoke that you would come to expect but somehow more rounded than the 16 or the DE. If you can find one, buy it.

Somehow better than the 16

It may not be justified by the price difference, but if that is less of an issue, the DO edition is more subtle than the 16 with additional nuanced flavors like burnt caramel, or a mild smoked sea salt. Worth it if ya got it.
