A thick, warming select reserve dram from the Highland distillery, Lochnagar, a component of Johnnie Walker blends. The Lochnagar distillery became "Royal" after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited the distillery whilst staying at Balmoral.

This is one of my all-time favourite malt whiskies: so smooth, drinkable and deeply enjoyable. It has a kind of comfort, warmth and familiarity about it. One of the best whiskies to curl up with on a winter's night, as I read WH Murray climbing adventures.

I bought a bottle of the Select Reserve during a visit in June 2015. I'm so glad that I did. Everyone who tasted during my Christmas party this loves it. The few who got the opportunity because I bought only one bottle. If it's possible to have a favorite single malt this might be the one!I'll add that it is as hard to rate a single malt, a good one, as it is to qualify a piece of art or one's love. Some like a certain one or a certain look and some don't. 10 0f 10 as far as I'm concerned and I have quite a collection.

This is a nice testing Scotch--- but it would be nice to have a age statement to help justify the price.

Sad to report the scotch is not the same since being sold to Dewar. It is no longer perfection.

This is the ultimate in scotches. Just the right amount of oakiness, followed by caramel and leather, with the right amount of alcohol and perfect finish. Absolutely superb. A+ and a 99.9 rating for me. It's just silly that I don't do 100's.

I bought my first bottle of this when I visited the distillery in 2008. It took a moment to find what I was looking for - the smell of Christmas Day - sitting in front of a log fire after a very heavy lunch. It's cold outside and you're just taking a breather before the Christmas pudding and mince pies.Scrooge is on the telly.(The old black and white version) And the colour - imagine looking in through georgian windows into a house on Christmas Eve - dimly lit, just the glow of the fire. The world may be fine when viewed through wine, but the colour of this whisky creates the atmosphere, the smells and the taste of Christmas from a bygone age.The Select Reserve is all of this and more.
