Royal Brackla 12 Year Old Bottling Note

Royal Brackla was the very first Scottish distillery to receive 'royal' status when, in 1833, it was bestowed upon them by King William IV. Most of the distillery's production goes into Dewar's blends, but as with other Dewar's distilleries a single malt range has been launched as part of the Last Great Malts. For the Royal Brackla Oloroso casks have been used for a luxurious, regal feel, with beautiful packaging to match.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Florentines, Coco Pop cakes, slightly leafy, more ginger. A drop of water brings out more green apple and toasted almond.

Palate: Pain au raisin. Pain au chocolat. Baking spices and gateau.

Finish: Milk chocolate dusting (not cocoa) and a hint of fizzy apple sweets.

Overall: A distinguished Oloroso cask matured malt.

Royal Brackla 12 Year Old Reviews

A nice 12 year old

I purchased a bottle of this at a big box stores in Chicago on Black Friday after Thanksgiving. It was on sale, roughly $30, so I bought it. I am not disappointed. Rasin, Coco, Apple with a Sherry taste fill the mouth. It has a long spicy finish. This is a nice change from Glenfiddich and Glenlivet and it us beautifully packaged.

Hidden Goodness. Just add a drop of water

The nose was inviting. At first taste it was a bit sharp but a drop of water brought out all charm and beauty. Solid 12 year for the price. After all I don't think a King would co-sign some shite in a bottle "The king's own shite" 😂😂.

Nice try...

Quite intense and spicy nose at the beginning, later revealing some chocolate and forest berries. The nose was promising, but taste is sharp and finish short, a lot of plain alcohol considering there's only 40% ABV and surprisingly no pereptible evidence about 12 years in cask. Expectations were higher as we are talking about 12 YO single malt. But surely there are people who like it and who appreciate the work.

Hmm not impressed

A bit disappointed with this. I like Sherry casks like aberlour abunadh. The nose is lovely but definitely not much to the end very short. Cardhu, Johnnie walker platinum and balblair 90 outshine this by miles. If your looking for a cheaper whisky to share with friends on a boozy night then feel free but not one for sipping in front of the fire with the book and savouring

Unbelievable value

Just got my first taste of this. I was a little sceptical about a mere 12 year old bottled at only 40% and priced at $53 (here in Switzerland where Scotch is very expensive). My favourite shopkeeper insisted I taste it and POW!

A nice light nose with hints of candied peel. A buttery, nutty, chocolatey palate. Less sweet than the Glendronach equivalent, much sweeter and more full in flavour than Glenlivet, brim full of dried fruit flavours, nicely spicy and smooooooooooth.

Not as complex as most older sherried whiskies and the finish is short and sweet leaving you wanting more. Very dangerous drink this.

Pleased with my purchase

Having my first one, tonight. Above average 12 - Smooth and quite rich, without being overpowering. If you enjoy a Glenmorangie La Santa, I reckon you'd also go a Royal Brackla 12 ...and vice versa, naturally!

Very Smooth

This is a very smooth whiskey. Light on the nose. Just a few drops of water to bring out the full aroma and taste. Like the title says, very smooth with a nice short finish.

Royal Brackla 12

Opened the bottle tonight and have literally drunk half of it and can honestly say "Smoooooth!
This is not a drunken appraisal......it is a recommendation that this whisky at $100 is all "one" needs to spend. It has all the purity and mellowness that a
discerning single malt whisky imbiber would appreciate.
