Redbreast is a rich, spicy single pot still Irish whiskey matured exclusively in first-fill Sherry and bourbon casks, and this fantastic 21 year old is no exception. A masterpiece of cask selection and blending, we absolutely love this older expression with its notes of tropical fruit, menthol and a touch of leather alongside all that mouth-filling goodness you find right across the range. Hats off to Billy Leighton and all those at Midleton!
Tropical pineapple (!) and crushed peanuts specifically, a bit like the combo you get on the outside of those soft cheese rings. Rich, rounded, spicy – prunes, quinces, a little deeply caramelised apple.
Mouth-filling and reassuring. A little menthol alongside the expected spiciness and some leather. On the tail there’s a touch of nectarine.
A little tangy fruit gives way to sweet and savoury barley notes.
Tremendous! Intricate and still full of life even though there’s a good proportion of whiskey older than 21 years old in there. Thoroughly enjoyable and one of the very best Irish whiskeys we've ever had the pleasure of tasting.
May I start off this review by stating a Mr. Valentin rated this 89/100!? Anyway, I don't like paying $AU400 for a bottle, but here goes! Lovely aroma... it lingers ; a sweet profile that belies its 46%. Nothing outstanding... but nothing un-pleasant. Probably as good Irish Pot-Still as there is, but there are other categories too that are as good within their category at lesser price.
Absolutely fantastic, just like all the other Redbreasts. Lovely mature taste, supreme smoothness, and is just a refined version of everything the RB 15 is. I'd say the smoothness even competes against the Yamazaki 12, which is incredible for a whisky that also brings so much more to the table. I slightly prefer the 15, just due to how much raw flavour it brings, but I would say this is the superior whisky. A must taste!
Everything else now taste just mehh...
Absolutely one of the best whiskeys for the money. The ending is amazing and can last 30 seconds per sip. Buy a bottle or split one with a good buddy.
They don't come much better than this! Absolutely superb but it does come with a hefty price tag. Redbreast 15 is less than half the price and isn't too far off this in truth, however the 21 will always be the better bigger brother.
