Te Bheag Nan Eiliean Bottling Note

The Gaelic Whisky Company are renowned for being independent through-and-through and produce whisky for whisky's sake. Rumour has it they are constructing a distillery on the Isle of Skye which will certainly be one to watch! This blend combines peat and brine with some soothing highlights from Speyside.

Whisky 12 Dram Collection

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: The aroma amalgamates coastal elements with peat and sherry in a Highland style.

Palate: Coffee and salt are very present with a hint of peat and some sweeter notes of caramel in the background.

Finish: The finish is hot and spicy and clings on for some time.

Overall: This great blended whisky is a challenge and that's a compliment. It forces the drinker to take stock and appreciate its many elements. Superb!

Te Bheag Nan Eilean Reviews

Good allrounder

Discovered this 1983 at the bar of Hotel Eilean Larmain on Skye.
Quite rare but enjoyed since. Pleasant & not overpowering like the usual suspects.

The best non malt whiskey about so smooth definitely recommend and great price

This is an absolute fantastic whiskey. The first time I tried this I thought, WOW!! Amazing. Better than most 12yr+ single malts. Brilliant

Flavoursome impact of first Te Beag

I had never tried whisky before, knew little about it. I bought a minature of Te Bheag, and weirdly drank it alongside a minature of Remy Martin... The contrast in flavours was interesting! I decided I liked the whisky best as its flavour were engrossing and familiar somehow. I have since tried the Juras, Glenfiddichs, Ardbeg, Whyte and Mackay, Tamnavulin and jack daniels bourbon. None of them have had same flavoursome impact of that first Te Beag wee dram. I am going to see how much it is for a bottle at my local wine store here in Derbyshire.

Amazing dram that is getting harder to find

Fantastic dram that is much more complex than others in its' category. Tastes like a single malt and I prefer it over many single malts.

Always keep a few bottles on hand!

This is without a doubt the best value scotch out there. Master of Malt's tasting notes are dead on (except coffee is more subtle than they suggest). It's as good or better than many 12 years from famous brands. This is like Jameson Caskmate to me: something I always have in my rotation, because of the superb value. Value whisky that doesn't compromise on flavour!

It is melted brown sugar and caramel combined on the palette. Long spicy finish and most affordable

A distinctive taste, and good value.

I've been drinking Té Bheag for some time now
It's not a smooth sipping whisky like a good single malt, but there are times when I appreciate its spicy bite. Good value.

Spent lots of summer in Isleornsay as a child. Beautiful place. Great whisky- a blend for all the right reasons.

Warms up Cold New Brunswick Canadian winter evenings

I enjoy this blended scotch very much.It doesn't drink like a blend but more like a malt.
I can honestly say it is by far the best blended Scotch I have had -it certainly gives many single malts a run for their money,I enjoy it "neat".

16th November 2017

Very, very good.

Took me a while to really appreciate. It's subtle. I now find it absolutely delicious, with a slight orange finish. Got to be careful not to drink too much of it.

Try this if you get a chance!

This is a brilliant blend, better than very many single malts, so please don't write it off. As value for money it's excellent. I love Islays but find Talisker too harsh, however this seems to contain a 'tamed' version of it. It's smooth and warming, I'd agree with the tasting notes. I get a bottle from the station shop at the Kyle of Lochalsh when I'm up there each year. A gem of a whisky!

The last bastion of common sense

When I get depressed about the state of the whisky industry I buy a bottle of this stuff to restore my faith

Good blend

Nice blend to find, reminds me of a mix of HP 12 sweetness with Talisker 10 peat. Well worth a try.

A gift from a great friend. Not a fan of peated malts, however the balance in this blend is in my opinion exceptional.

Can't beat the price

For the price this whisky is better than any single malt under £30. I would highly recommend this it has a sweet but slightly Smokey smell only slightly Smokey to the point where it takes a few sips to notice it,which adds layers to this complex bkend. On the palate is caramel with some subtle peat and a long spicy finish, I had this at the same time as a Johnnie walker black which is my go to blended whisky but I've now changed to this defiantly worth the price and much better than Jura, glenfiddich, arbelour etc...

TÉ BHEAG NAN EILEAN ( Tay Vee ug or Vig Nan Ill on) Little Taste of the Island. TÉ BHEAG is a colloquial phrase.

Blais (BLAHS) is the Scottish Gaelic Word for the sense of Taste. Blas (BLAHS) is the Irish Gaelic form of the same word.

From John Milwain

Te Bheag is the best tasting whisky, I love the taste it is quite different from any whisky have ever tasted.

4/5 for value/price.

Easy drink with a slight bite.
Coastal, salty and brine on nose.
Cherry, toffee and big camel all the way till fairy long sweet finish.
Very nice overall considering low price.

Just what I needed

I have just started my Scotch journey, so glad I found Te Bheag. This is what I imagined Scotch would be.

A Wee Dram

As I sit in the comfort of my massage chair on a chilly winter's eve, this whiskey warms me to the bones. It's pleasant not punishing slightly sweet but not overpowering. When I close my eyes and take a sip, I can imagine sitting on a rugged section of a beach with a fire burning and the pungent smell of sea air and burning wood permeates the air.

Calum Buchanan

I found this whisky quite by accident during whilst traveling through the Hebrides years ago. It is a wonderful whisky at a very good price; for $35 CAN I don't know of a whisky that can compare to it. Fiery yet subtle, sweet but organic, there is a nice peaty trace and that lovely mineraly taste that good Scottish whiskys have.

Best blend for price

I live in Canada and picked up a bottle for $40 yesterday. For that amount of money and the quality of te bheag is expectional. Can taste the heavy single malt content (40%), if i didn't know it was a blend i wouldn't even be able to taste the grain content, its that good. This is excellently put together.

Taste: It tastes very similar to highland park 12, but without the savory bacon flavour and with a lot more smoke on the finish

Excellent whisky and value for money, at this price range blows glenfiddich 12/glenlivet 12 out of the water.

Great Blend

A great whiskey, and a tremendous value. I enjoy it as often as possible.

The Perfect Blend

Smoky, balanced, and just a great drinking whisky. Cheap to. This has become my 'go-to.'

6th June 2014

Fantastic, best blended I tried

Had a pleasure to drink some while on Isle of Skye. It is fantastic blended whisky. Hard to get, but worth it!

10th May 2014

Ms L

I discovered this at the equally amazing Il Viccoletto restaurant in Stresa (Lake Maggiore)... wont drink any other scotch now.

3rd February 2014

got to be up there

Superbly blended whisky. I don't know what malt content it has but it certainly does not have that grain whisky taste of cheaper blends.
Don't have a great palate, but to me this tastes like a superb blend of highland, island and a touch of islay malts. impressively blended, would drink this way before many single malts i have tasted.

18th December 2013

mr T

wasn't going to bother with blends anymore , omg mmmm glad i did , if you dont like this then you have no buds, thanks to motm for its recommendation,

19th July 2013

best blended ever?

I used to purchase this when I lived in Ontario. Peppery flavour with salt and heat that fairly SCREAMS Talisker. If I had to guess, I'd say it's made with at least 50% of that fine malt. But it's milder, which will suit many palates. In fact, someday it would be good to compare this with, say, the Talisker 18. Highly recommended.
