Boutique-y Port Ellen #5 Bottling Note

It's here. Phone people. Write letters. Open up windows and shout at things. Let the things know that it's here. But what is it? Batch 5 of Port Ellen single malt Scotch whisky, bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company, that's what. Despite the distillery closing its doors in 1983, Port Ellen still has a massive following of fans around the world. The label features Jon Beach from Fiddler's Whisky Bar, Port Ellen collector extraordinaire, looking wistfully off in the distance, holding a bag of sherbet lemons and chamois leather - some classic Port Ellen notes. There seems to be a couple of people on the shore too, what are they up to?

Just 89 bottles of these extremely rare bottles are available.

‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains, blended malts, blends and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic-novel-style labels.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Gorgeous, coastal Islay notes, oily seaweed, tarry rope, nutty sea-swept oak. There's a hint of expressed lemon peel too, which gives depth, and classic Port Ellen chamois leather notes run right through the middle of everything.

Palate: Straight back into wonderful chamois leather, now alongside coconut nougat and some tropical fruit, perhaps some lightly barbecued papaya.

Finish: An immediate hit of sooty smoke, soon joined by nuttiness and eventually some beach barbecue on a massively long and proud finish.

Overall: More captivating Port Ellen single malt from That Boutique-y Whisky Company. Pure whisky porn.

Port Ellen - Batch 5 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company) Reviews

@whats my age again

Well if the distillery closed in 1983 and this was bottled from the cask in 2014 then it would be at least 31 years old, or very similar.

Jalepeno, Smoke, Peat, Amazing!

Overall: an incredibly smooth rich smoky, spicy drink with lucious flavor and complexity - one of the best drams I've had recently. At $900/bottle it lives up to the price tag - a great dram.

The Nose: Rich Peaty Smoke, Floral Notes.
The Palette: Smoke, Peat, Heat, Charcoal, Jalepeno.
The Finish: Long lasting chewy spicy oak, smoke, peat.

Unfortunately we can't reveal the age, but it's old. Plenty old. Promise. --The Chaps at Master of Malt

What's My Age Again?

I'm sure it's lovely but for that price, at least a *hint* of the age of the spirit would be nice.

I've seen official bottlings go at auction for this sort of money.
