A marvellous and decidedly rare Port Ellen distilled in 1982 and aged for a massive 30 years in a single refill hogshead before bottling in 2012 for Douglas Laing's premium Old and Rare Platinum Selection.
Nose: A very zesty sherbet lemon aroma with hints of chamois leather and gentle peat smoke.
Palate: Gingerbread dough and fresh squeezed lemon with a coastal saltiness.
Finish: The peat picks up on the finish with hints of spice.
Overall: This independent bottling is remarkably good, and is reminiscent of official bottlings.
