A 30 year old single cask grain whisky bottled for Douglass Laing's premium "Director's Cut" range. This was distilled in January of 1981 and aged in a single refill hogshead (Number 8416) before bottling at natural cask strength in November of 2011. A release of 131 bottles.
Nose: Spiced and warming with notes of rhubarb and custard sweets, corn sweets, a little barley and black pepper. Very fruity, and a good deal of character coming through from all that time in the cask!
Palate: Berry fruits, a little tropical note (think coconut and guava), hints of butterscotch and maybe just a soupcon of coffee beans. A really classy whisky with great balance.
Finish: Herbal finish, with pear drops, stewed fruit and cocoa.
