Penderyn Legend Bottling Note

Penderyn Legend is a Welsh single malt whisky firstly matured in bourbon barrels and finished in ex-Madeira casks before it's bottled, imparting an intriguing touch of vibrant sweetness. It has been bottled at 41% ABV, slightly lower than the Welsh distillers' other Madeira-cask-finished single malt.

Penderyn Legend Reviews

well worth trying

Poor and low rating reviews can only be from those who haven't experienced the taste of many malts, for a welsh malt this particular one tick's all the boxes, I have never tasted anything else like it,smooth full of flavour and simply unique

definitely worth trying.

I just can't believe some of the bad reviews I have read on here. I live in Scotland and I have tried many malts,so yes initially when I came across this welsh malt I expected the worst ! I was completely wrong, this malt is just so smooth and full of flavour it's unbelievable,it is by far one of the best malts i have had the pleasure of tasting from outside of Scotland.

Quite Nice

I bought this because I was curious and it was on offer. It didn't blow me away but it has definitely grown on me. I would buy again .. when on offer ... an easy drinker ..

Very good for £23

It needs a dribble of water to loosen up the flavours and take away some of the initial harshness but after that it's sweet, light and chrisp. I'm not sure I'd be happy if I paid £30 for it but it's often on sale and worth a punt if you find it on offer.

Full of flavour, excellent for the price.

I'm a particular fan of Madeira cask finishes, perhaps the best I've had was the Balvenie 17 Year Old release from 2009, this doesn't quite compare with that but it does come close to the later 21 Year Old bottling from Balvenie at less than 1/4 of the price at time of writing.

The nose is full of fruits and sweet spices but the first hit on the palate is very light - I can understand the other reviews calling it bland. However, this is just the initial impact and I find it quite refreshing for such a fruit heavy whisky not to bowl you over right away, the flavour developes brilliantly as it moves across the tongue with a sweet citrus morphing into apples and almost a hint of cinnamon. Finally it leaves you with the warm sultana finish characteristic of madeira cask whiskies.

For its price it is an excellent whisky, almost a 4.5 but to earn that I'll need to be convinced of the consistency with a second bottle.

Fiery and bland

Not great. Very strong on the throat even with a drop of water. The taste after that lingers is nice but the initial hit is hot, fiery and bland. Not for me I'm afraid.

first

Fabulous stuff been a whiskey man all my life now at 68 have all the years of tasting to draw from .This legend is just that ,I have found it in a Welsh bottle. Truly THE LAST WORD FOR ME

Not one for me

First try of this brand, others in the line up may be better with more depth of flavour, as said below rather harsh and bland for me even with a drop of water. I’ll have this bottle for a while I think

A very agreeable tipple.

I like this neat - very much a summer drink for me - it has it's own style (i.e. a Welsh whisky) and does not pretend to be something that it is not. As with all things Welsh, it sits very well in the company of other nationalities, whether they be Scottish, Irish, Spanish, American. Italian, German, Indian or whatever - I enjoy having different company & just sticking to 1 whisky, 1 conversation, 1 group of friends etc would be a very boring life indeed! Penderyn Legend is good company - very smooth, sweet and inoffensive, but can pleasantly surprise you on occasion - it is not going to bore you senseless with technicalities nor is it going to tell you long rambling yarns - it is going to leave you with a feeling that it is something a bit different that you haven't quite understood, but don't really need to know in order to enjoy it. That's the way I like it & if you don't like it, please feel free to send me any bottles that you might have lying around. Hwyl dda - lloniannau.

Excellent easy drinking whisky.

This must be the easiest drinking whisky I've ever tasted. I would say its more of a summer whisky, light an fruity. An everyday whiskey, easy drinking.
