An 8 year old from the Old Pulteney distillery, matured in refill Bourbon barrels before bottling by Gordon and MacPhail.
The nose is thick and full and very smoky. Notes of burning seaweed and hay with nut oils and recently extinguished fire. There is a good sea spray, pounding the shore inextricably with dried woods and pot pourri. The palate is thick and full with oily seaweed and iodine, the coastal notes are really coming into their own with tarry ropes and leather. The finish is long and full with plenty of oak and peppered heat.

Excellent whisky, one of the nicest in the 8-12yo category.

I'd agree with other reviews: I think this is better than Old Pulteney's standard 12 year old version. For the price it's obviously not going to complete with whiskeys in the next price bracket up, but for what you pay this is fantastic. I find it nice and light and drinkable, but still has enough punch (from it's young age) to be interesting and the finish is decently long and complex for a whiskey at this price. Highly recommended to have in your collection.

I think this is better than the 12yo from the distillery.
