Old Elgin 8 Bottling Note

An 8 year old blended malt from Speyside. This was bottled by Gordon and MacPhail and named for the city of Elgin where the company is based.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

The nose is quite light and sweet. There are notes of crème anglaise and cereal sweetness, there is a hint of dry winter spice and a note of white pepper and gooey toffee. The palate is quite light and spirity with a good sweetness. There are notes of vanilla cream and fudge, a green character. The finish is of good length with plenty of dried fruit.

Old Elgin 8 Year Old Reviews

Dissapointed

For me it has a strange taste. I am not sure what it is. Old oak perhaps, but I will not buy another.

Grant Melville

An excellent vatted malt, those folk at Gordon & MacPhail really know what they're doing! It's not the cheapest vatted malt out there, nor the most readily available in terms of bricks and mortar retail, but I should say that it's definitely worth the price and the postage. It's a big, sweet whisky, but not sickly or cloying, "cereal sweetness" sums it up nicely. There's a lovely complexity to it as well, especially if it's warmed gently in the hand and a little water is added.

Superb

An excellent vatted malt, definitely a firm favourite of mine. It's a sweet, rich whisky with a complex nose and medium body. Excellent value for money and a really exciting whisky.
