Oban Little Bay Bottling Note

Previously part of their travel retail offering, Oban's Little Bay has graduated to the core range as a 70cl bottling. Master Blenders Dr. Matthew Crow and Dr. Craig Wilson use whisky matured in refill American oak hogsheads, European oak Sherry casks and refill casks with new ends for this expression before allowing the resultant single malt whisky to marry in small oak casks.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Dried apple chips, floral herbs and chopped mint, candied orange and a touch of milky coffee.

Palate: Those fancy chocolates with the flakes of sea salt, pound cake topped with demerara sugar and cinnamon. Citrus returns on the mid-palate.

Finish: Spiced with cinnamon and ginger.

Oban Little Bay Reviews

Phenomenally Underrated.

Phenomenally underrated. Complex but loose and not overburden with notes.
Diffently a must for the whisky cabinet.
Unfortunately here in South Florida the cost is around 80.00 dollars upward.

Probably the most underrated single malt I have come across

The best for the price

A real surprise... there seems to be a problem now with distribution.... I will buy it a case at a time if it's ever distributed again

Excellent whiskey, I call it golden candy, can’t get enough of it. We pay $40.00 pet bottle, worth it in the U.S . Worth every penny love it.

Highly recommended!

Love it. One of those whiskies that has become a part of my must-have list. Tried the 14 year and was disappointed; the Little Bay is the one that I like. Lots of character.

Nice scotch

Solid and inoffensive with enough complexity to keep me tempted. The finish is lacking a bit but the nose more than makes up for it imo. I stumbled upon a sale at $39.99 US and think it worth every penny. If this were $65 +/- I would be FAR less tempted, however, at $40each I will be buying a second bottle.

Profile failure

Definitely something wrong with the profile: sits oddly on the tongue and leads to a heavy nose finish with a bitter pharmaceutical mouthfeel, rather disappointing. Now I know why the store I bought it at sold it at half price...

Sumptuous bouquet that doesn’t deliver

Sumptuous bouquet that sadly doesn’t deliver. Falls off the palate far too quickly. Thin. Weak. Hollow. Not what I expect of an Oban whiskey.

Surprisingly Delightful

Lovely dram, was very surprised on how nice it is for a non specific age whisky, it's as good as the 14yr old lovely nose and taste, will be purchasing another one

Meets my taste

While at the spirit retailer I noticed it stacked with a price that made me take a second look. The retailer had made a large quantity purchase and had it for almost half price. I sorta ignored it because I wasn't familiar yet I had purchased the 14 yr many times before and i liked it. I grabbed bottle os Balvenie CC off the shelf and as was checking out gave the Oban LB another glance. Grabbed a bottle out of pure thought that what the heck its cheap for the trying. Got home gave it a try and would take the Balvenie back in a second. In trade for this drop. Was impressed and even though it was on sale i will pay full price here on out.

Very Very Nice

Really tasty dram that will not disappoint - was curious to try it, glad I did.

A rare gem

I had the pleasure of visiting this distillery last month and it was a real eye opener. Oban is incredibly true to it's roots no color is added to any of their whisky and none of it is used for blending purposes just quality single malts. This is no exception and after trying it at the distillery I knew I needed a bottle once I got home. I just wish this wasn't so expensive because it is definitely better than the 14 year old in my opinion. Incredibly smooth neat with a hint of smoke a lot of oak some sherry fruit and sea salt. Superb, my favorite thing from this lovely distillery. Cheers! The Sugarbear

A lovely smooth dram

Oban little bay is so smooth, yet it retains the usual Oban complexities that comes with every dram. It surprises me every time i drink it.

Great whisky

I don't generally rate NAS Scotch but this is a particularly nice one. No astringent off-tastes or alcohol burn, nothing astonishing but more rounded and full bodied with a reasonably long finish - I wouldn't be disappointed with a bottle of this.

Love it

Oban Little Bay Small Cask is one of my favorite single malt scotches now. smooth with a caramel fruity flavor and a hint of peet. Loved it.

This needs some better reviews

I frankly love this dram, fruity and rich and with a spicy peat kick at the end to give it more depth. I am always in search of that profile but rarely find it done well (pre-1995 glen garioch is another). I also feel like it's come down in cost, making it a go to daily dram. I strongly recommend it, and if not clear I think it's better than the 14.

Solid Oban but not better than Oban 14

Beautiful dram here, spices and dried fruits like apricots and figs on the nose. Pepper and saltine crackers on the palate with a hint of maple syrup. Short and dry finish. Great dram but the price point I think should be lower than the 14.

It's ok

Priced at par or higher than Oban 14 is just ridiculous. It's just ok, not great. I won't buy it again because I've had better for a lower price.
