Jefferson's Reserve Bottling Note

The bigger, higher proof brother to the standard (and also excellent Jefferson's), Jefferson's Reserve is a well-aged, medium bodied bourbon. The previous edition was labelled as a 15 year old.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Gentle, dried fruits, hay, warming, hints of spice, cream, vanilla. Lovely sweetness.

Palate: Very summery, light and supple bourbon which offers good, clean delivery, pleasant sweetness, hints of cigar leaf, pepper and toffee.

Finish: Long finish, with good oak integration, a little sweetness and dry spice lingers.

Jefferson's Reserve Bourbon Reviews

An Irish Bourbon???

Before I get blasted for whiskey blasphemy, let me explain. This Bourbon has all the right notes on the tongue and nose and then some! Beautiful, buttery dram that stands up to Bourbons costing double. As to my rebellious comparison? This whiskey is just as smooth and gentle as any triple distilled Irish Whiskey out there. Combine that silky smoothness with a taste and nose that would rally a Kentucky General and you've got yourself a winner!

Easy smooth drinker

For people who can't shoot bourbon this is for you....it's the closest thing to drinking water...

This is a bourbon that has everything going for itself, and more

I have enjoyed almost every Jefferson that’s out there. I’ve found some better than others, which is a normal experience. With the ones I found to be more to my liking I’ve gone back to buy another bottle to put away and enjoy for another time. With this one I didn’t buy another, but I bought two bottles. Why two bottles you ask? One to store away with the others, one to have my friends enjoy a bourbon that should taste what a bourbon should taste like. Either if you’re new to the bourbon world and wondering what bourbon you should buy. Or you’ve had other bourbons that’s out there and still haven’t found the one you want to enjoy, and would come back to. This definitely is the one you’ll ask yourself, why didn’t I find this sooner. To me this beats Blanton by miles. Trust me you’ll enjoy this one.

Horrible

Not going to give it a rating as I am a Scotch Malt drinker and it would be unfair. This was rough tasting. Overpowering alcohol and pepper.

Absolutely my favorite bourbon

My favorite bourbon. Subtle, smooth, with great depth. There are other good bourbons, but this one is special.

Excellent, but not for beginners.

Very special. I was a single malt scotch drinker for years, until my son went to the Univ of Louisville to play baseball. After several visits to Louisville, one of the most fun cities in the country, I was indoctrinated to the science of bourbon. No more scorcher me, except an occasional MacAllen 12 or Glenmorangie. If you're starting to get into bourbon, try Basil Hayden's initially, a fine top shelf Jim Beam distillery product. Then progress to this baby, Jefferson's Special Reserve. The Aged at Sea version is a little different, but personally not worth the extra $$. To finish off your collection, try Willett's or Booker's. More burn, longer finish, not for the faint of heart. One you can drink over rocks, don't have to wait for the ice to melt, one where a little melt helps the flavor to linger, and a couple to sip.

caustic and overratef

How is this getting 5 stars? My local package store ran out of 1792 small batch, and I grabbed this in its stead. The caustic, peppery, alcohol overpowered any nuance it may have had. I'd have been better off pouring battery acid over ice.

A perfect bourbon

This is a bourbon that I can rate 10 and not just pretend to approve in polite company!

Subtly scrumptious, yet still slightly one-dimensional

I have little experience of bourbon, having concentrated mostly on malt whisky over last several decades. I have tried JD, JB, JB Black and Jefferson's Std, so I am not an expert on bourbon, though I have gleaned as much as possible from tasting well over a hundred malts. This is definitely a corn-based drink- there is that pseudo-candy sweetness in the aftertaste which can be sleazy in lesser bourbons but in this is quite pleasant. The aftertaste is siblte but long-lasting. The initial 'wash' around the mouth has a pleasant bitterness, subsiding into a 'yellow' note, redolent of hay, with the bittercandy quickly following on. There is nothing nasty in this dram- this must be stated. I don't think any seasoned whisk(e)y drinker would actually object to this and in fact it is quite pleasant. tonight I actually bought this in preference to Famous Grouse 12 yo ALL MALT, for a change. So it's not bad at all, but with nothing like the complexity of a Scottish Malt whisky.
