Nose: Exotic spices, apple that's just begun to caramelise and dried grapes. Coffee and leather develop, running into crème brûlée, golden barley and soft toffees. Rum and raisin surfaces too, along with more spices and butterscotch.
Palate: Pleasantly thick but not too much so. Wood spice, a hint of cumin and luxurious cigar box, coffee and caramel notes with just a touch of smoke.
Finish: Long lasting with nutmeg, crushed nuts, fine cigars and whispers of fruit; lychee, raisin and a little dried apricot perhaps.
Overall: Dignified, but by no means tired. An exquisite and complex fine whisky that's been matured, extraordinarily, for half a century.
