The Deveron 12 Year Old Bottling Note

From Macduff distillery, this is a single malt you may know as Glen Deveron, but a new range of expressions and new packaging in September 2015 also saw a change of name to The Deveron. This is the 12 year old.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Sweet baking spice, toffee apples and ginger.

Palate: A core of butterscotch with waxy malt and apple pie.

Finish: Wood spice, vanilla and soft oakiness.

Overall: A new-look core expression for a single malt that's rightly getting more attention.

Deveron 12 Year Old Reviews

I bought in a Quebec government liquor outlet. Delicate and fruity with a long vanilla finish.

Complex. Spice, vanilla and caramel. Very smooth.

4th July 2020

Very impressed

Awsome drop very smooth and complex flavour, my 2nd choice is Monkey shoulder
Single malt very popular with scotch lovers.

25th April 2020

Smooth through out the journey, hints of cinnamon, vanilla and raisin, excellent straight do not ruin with water or any mix. Outstanding!

29th February 2020

Well balanced whisky

Very nice whisky, sweet and light taste on the taste buds.

13th February 2020

Great whisky

Easy on the palate

5th February 2020

Nothing to be repeated

After gaining bad fame for producing low quality whisky they now changed the name and packaging thrusting that people will still buy it. While it doesn't change the fact - it's still low quality

Decent no nonsense whisky

It’s good, not amazing or terribly complex but at the price you don’t expect perfection.

Highly recommended!

Ambrosia and the taste of whisky in this is so advanced than anything else I have tasted. With the smell of butterscotch and vanilla, it is so tantalizing to the taste and palate. I have Scottish heritage and we have sampled PLENTY of scotch whisky during my lifetime and this is one of the best!

27th July 2019

Very drinkable, light, sweet and uncomplicated

We had a blind taste of 6 whiskys from the North East of Scotland and this came top. Very light, sweet and easy to drink, its a great starter whisky especially with a drop of cold water. Might not please those looking for a complex nose, but our group of fairly diverse whisky tastes loved its simplicity. 8.5 out of ten was the average score.. Amazing for the price.

Good and quality price

7th May 2019

Great whiskey at a great price.

I've just opened my second bottle of this and the more time I spend with it the more I enjoy it.
The tastnotes from MoM is spot on, and I personally love the butterscotch and wood spice combo.

There is definately a third bottle on the horizon!

Sweet & Smooth

Great whisky, read its from MacDuff distillery, not sure why its call Deveron. Sweet and smooth, a little citrus. Also surprisingly good value!!!

27th December 2018

Simple and warming...more complexity of butterscoth in the scent, but a mild warming taste.

Rich and warm with just a tad oakiness...

4th September 2018

Very fine whiskey keep it stocked for a firelit winter's night.

This is a smooth whiskey with excellent nose and very fine taste for those who prefer a Highland dram. Excellent at the Canadian price point and soon to become a favourite

25th August 2018

Very good whiskey for the money

I usually enjoy smokey whiskey but this one was a surprise I really like the after taste with the smooth vanilla taste.

27th June 2018

Exceptional bottle. Content not of same standard

One of the best looking and feeling bottles about. The nose is lingering. Sweet on palate and aftertaste. Good but not exceptional. Still befuddled as to whether this is Highlands or Speyside. Label says Highlands but Mcduff is Speyside please somebody explain

Very smooth and a nice tasting drink

the first time I tasted it I really enjoyed it I,ery smooth and a nice m a whiskey drinker , but my wife is not but she had a taste and enjoyed it.this was a bottle bought in Sweden,by my son who lives in Norway while we were holidaying their for a fortnight. Not bad at all.

Not bad at all, is my final thought. The sugary sweetness, that was so in evidence initially, seems to have evaporated and the Deveron 12 has earned itself another star. Quite a learning experience and, in fact, I may very well be tempted to try a second bottle. Cheers.

8th May 2018

Less disappointing.

Apropos my earlier comments on The Deveron 12 I have now had a chance to sample it again and feel that I may have been too hasty in my criticism. For some inexplicable reason my bottle seems to have lost some of its overpowering sweetness and, for that reason alone, is seems more drinkable. Perhaps the 'sugars' rise to the top when the bottle is on the shelf and consequently my first exposure was oversweet in comparison to later samples.
At any rate it now seems more acceptable and I will give it 3 stars as a reward.

The Deveron 12 year old whisky is too cloyingly sweet for my taste and butterscotch sweet is a good overall description. The overall taste lingers on the palate and almost cries out for a glass of water to dispel the memory of it. It's certainly a smooth whisky but I am in no hurry to pour myself a second shot.

Just finished my first bottle of devron 12 this afternoon and I must say it was fantastic. I will be ordering another one soon

14th January 2018

A good single malt.

A very good whisky. Smooth but kind of spicy, feel ginger for sure. I like it.

10th January 2018

Very, very smooth. I really like this one!

16th December 2017

4.5 stars

In Canada it's a $60.00 for the 12 year. I very much enjoy highland scotch. This is under valued.

8th November 2017

Very nice and well priced

realy impressed with this malt. Really hard to have just one

15th October 2017

Green apple, honeysuckle, and light spices. Absolutely delicious.

1st October 2017

Ultra smooth.

This is a fantastic light malt whiskey. Enjoyable anytime.

19th August 2017

Great value for money.

Really pleasant whisky. Perfect as a social drink or after dinner. Like the smoothness of it. Almost as good as my 1990 Rosebank.

Wow ! The Deveron 12 Year Old is a Whiskey to be had. I have never tasted a Whiskey so smooth and
pleasant to the taste. I am thankful that I was introduced to it .

Very smooth easy to drink and very enjoyable

26th December 2016

Smooth and easy drinking

Years ago, I enjoyed the old Glen Deveron 10yo so I was expecting something good and this dram delivered. It's a real no-nonsense, clean tasting malt and very smooth indeed. I savoured two good-sized drams over an hour or so and could quite happily gone on - it's perilously easy drinking. However, I don't like the frosted coloured glass bottle (indeed, I don't like any coloured whisky bottle) - I prefer to see the colour of the whisky but this is a very minor moan.

Wow one of my top 5

4th October 2016

Good, solid. Very malty with rich fruitiness behind in a careful way. Not full rating but very nice. The frosty bottle in the seas color is odd but something else than what we Know.

21st September 2016

Straightforward and Solid

Butterscotch, apples, some spice, and that's about it. Very balanced and a great value for money. My chief complaint is there is some alcohol lingering on the nose and in the palate, which is a bit off-putting, especially due to the fact that this is bottled at 40%. It's not overpowering or a huge issue though. All around, solid everyday drinker

31st July 2016

Quality exceeds its pricing and youth

similar smoothness and balance to a glenmorangie, but much more of a marzipan taste lingers. Quality exceeds its pricing and youth
