A brilliant Macallan distilled in 1990 and aged in bourbon barrels before a finish in Premier Cru Chateau Haut Brion red wine casks. The result is a fabulous cask strength release of 1,450 bottles, bottled by Murray McDavid in 2007.
Nose: Red berries, cranberries particular, rose petals, a touch of soft smoke, sultanas and white grape juice. Pepper, grist and candy floss.
Palate: Intense, spiced palate with notes of kiwis, pomegranate, blueberries and bread and butter pudding. A touch of marmalade and custard develops.
Finish: Robust finish with maple syrup and pain au lait.
Overall: A very interesting match of malty Macallan with the robust, red berry richness from the Haut Brion wine casks!
