A 44 year old Lochside from this now closed distillery. With most of the output going into blends such as Sandy Macnab's, single malts from Lochside are extremely rare, with the distillery having originally been mothballed in 1992. (The buildings were eventually demolished in 2005.)
Distilled in 1967 and matured in a single sherry butt (cask 807), this single cask whisky was bottled in 2011 by The Vintage Malt Whisky Co. as part of their The Coopers Choice range.
Nose: Malty and slightly herbal. Rhubarb and cream. Fig rolls.
Palate: Light chocolate digestive with just a hint of fragrant leather. Plum some dark spices, a little treacle.
Finish: Mint chocolate and crisp oak.
Overall: Fresh for a whisky of this age. Excellent.
