The Highland distillery of Lochside was founded in 1898 but sadly closed in 1992, then was demolished in 2005. This bottling from Adelphi was distilled in 1965 and is an impressive forty-seven years old.
Nose: A gorgeous combination of poached stone fruits, maraschino cherries and dried fruits leading to apple cider vinegar.
Palate: Marzipan and dried apricots leading to Cognac-like leather and masses of Pedro Ximenez sherry.
Finish: The finish is as long as you could want it to be with notes of candied orange peel and thick sherry.
Overall: Complex, deep, fresh. Everything a whisky of this age should be.
