Distilled at the Royal Lochnagar distillery in 2000, this is a new addition to the Distillers Edition range from Diageo. It was finished in "fine old" Muscat casks before bottling in 2012. Very good indeed.
Nose: Rich fruit on the nose, with hints of strawberry jam and allspice. A little banana, malt loaf and ground walnut.
Palate: Date and walnut cake, with cracked black pepper, fig conserve and spice. Deliciously malty and rich.
Finish: Long, nutty finish with lingering fruit and gingernut biscuits.
Overall: Full of spice and fruit.

A real juicy, grapey malt as one might expect from being finished in Muscat wine casks. Some lovely aromatic summery blossom notes on the nose but it is the fruit that bursts forth here, homemade strawberry jam, juicy sultana, ripe galia melon, apricot & waxy orange.A fat & juicy mouthfeel with green figs in honey, orange blossom & a toch of ginger spice. The finish impresses as well with more juicy fruit & fresh blossom & sweet spice, this is a summer trifle of a malt and a pleasant surprise from a distillery I had not previously rated. Myself and a couple of mates recently bought a bottle of this and we all found it a bit too sweet. It was still drinkable and had a nice fruitiness and spice to it, had good body and it worked better at 40% than expected. It actually benefited from the addition of water as well, it took the sweetness down a peg or two.
