Loch Lomond 12 Year Old Bottling Note

12 year old single malt Scotch whisky from Loch Lomond, whom are well known for being able to produce a wide variety of styles of whisky in their distillery in the Highland region. This particular expression was drawn from a selection of three cask types - bourbon casks, refill casks and recharged casks.

*18+ and UK only. Applies to valid purchases of 70cl Loch Lomond 12 Year Old on Master of Malt Retail only. Offer valid from 02 June 2023, while limited promotional stock lasts.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Creamy vanilla, with a touch of freshly baked apple turnover.

Palate: Brown sugar and five-spice. Orchard fruit notes continue, with a hint of yellow plum too.

Finish: Quite drying, though still sweet with vanilla.

This needs to breathe! Don’t review before breathing it well
From reading the reviews below it’s clear that many people have formed their opinion quickly after opening. And they’re correct.
This dram needs time.
It DOES start harsh and thin. After a thorough shaking and breathing it becomes full and sweet. I suggest you put half of it in another bottle, shake them both well and let the spirit wake up for a few days .
Then you will have a lovely whisky.

Not for me
Not very pleasant found to harsh and a little Smokey not my cup of tea

Good product at, for me, the right price.
For somebody who is not a connoisseur but enjoys Single Malts I found this to have more than a pleasant taste and was being sold at an excellent price.

Bad
Worst excuse for a single malt that I ever had the misfortune of tasting. It appears that Loch Lomond distillery has no quality control. This harsh, taste-less stuff should never have been bottled.

A phenomenal peach-forward Scotch
I don't know if other people got a bad batch, but this, in my opinion, is an excellent Scotch. Very nice color. Scent of peach and fruit. Taste is better than the smell. Peaches and cream with vanilla and a hint of fresh oatmeal. It is extremely smooth for a 46%, I've had lower ABV Scotchs that are much more harsh and burn the throat.

My dad, who is not a Scotch drinker (he prefers Cognac and brandy) also found this Scotch very good. I do admit, if you prefer a smokier and peatier Scotch, I would not recommend this Scotch. However, as someone that enjoys both whiskey and fruit brandies (such as rakija) this is one of the best liquors I have had.

A decent addition to a whisky collection. A bit different
I quite like it. A mixture of sweetness and fruity flavours to start off with, mild vanilla. Then pepper and curried spices , warming.
Reminds me of an Indian dish reinvented in Glasgow by adding cream and sugars..
maybe a faint metallic taste …
…beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
It’s not pretentious & maybe not fashionable. Different to my 60 other whisky’s flavours.
No smoke or peat that I can taste
I loved the simplicity of some unfashionable different single malts like Glen Keith but many people scored it low .. so what do I know?

Tired casks shining through
Lots of refill casks used here, resulting in a harsh experience with the subtle notes being drowned out by the harshness. Props for not chill filtering but you can’t put lipstick on a pig as some might say. Whilst Loch Lomond are improving their quality, there’s a way to go yet.

Just a bit too harsh
I'm not getting it unfortunately. To me it's a bit too lively and harsh. A drop of water and time mellows it to an extent but it is still that little too harsh.
