Loch Lomond 12 Year Old Bottling Note

12 year old single malt Scotch whisky from Loch Lomond, whom are well known for being able to produce a wide variety of styles of whisky in their distillery in the Highland region. This particular expression was drawn from a selection of three cask types - bourbon casks, refill casks and recharged casks.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Creamy vanilla, with a touch of freshly baked apple turnover.

Palate: Brown sugar and five-spice. Orchard fruit notes continue, with a hint of yellow plum too.

Finish: Quite drying, though still sweet with vanilla.

Loch Lomond 12 Year Old Reviews

Vanilla and caramel lightly smokey and delicious

LOCH LOMOND 12

The Look: caramel, amber apple cider
The Nose: Vanilla, caramel, light smoke, honey
The Taste:  honey, caramel chocolate, briney, earthy, honeysuckle, floral, a bit of a bite
The Finish: bright, shiny, a bit of a bite, lasts for quite a while 20-30 seconds.  Reminds me of Old Pulteney 12 but less malty and a bit like Bruichladdich Classic Laddie with less cocoa powder chalkiness.
The Bottle: tall, sleek, beautiful, and bold.  Excellent logo and branding.  Text is perfect, however i wish the stags head logo was embossed rather than a nearly flat sticker.

THE VERDICT: 88 PTS
at 46% this is a steal much better than Glenlivet for an entry to scotch is a bit of smoke a bit of honey.  Extremely impressive when compared side by side with OP12 and the Classic Laddie i am blown away with how well it stands up.  I am thoroughly impressed by this super affordable (39.99 at Bevmo in California) malt.  And the slight smoke on the palate is a great surprise.

Side note Loch Lomond the actual lake is beautiful and a great sight-seeing trip. Also a great traditional Scottish Song!

Not smokey enough, but still good

Good Scotch but not my cup of tea. From the bottle description I thought it would be more smokey. But I'm partial to peat, if you don't like alotta smoke then try it!

Well worth a try and several after!

Exquisite aroma. Sweet caramel and fruity notes. Let it breathe for a bit and allow the air to open the flavour. The sweet caramel followed by a nice burn to remind you this is a sophisticated dram with a decent level of alcohol content.

Under-appreciated. Under-priced.

Surprising how few people miss the peach candy on the pallet, cradled by a smoky malt which lingers. Its price, its uniqueness, and its objective quality gives it a 95 in my book.

Great whisky, pour into wide brimmed glass..

I can't fathom all the bad reviews. I think it is due to subjectivity of tastes. The whsiky itself is very very good. What's not good is the many people don't know how to drink it neat. Straight and simple: Decork the bottle, let it sit opened for an hour, pour a dram into wide brimmed glass and swirl it. Then try it. All dark liquors need contact with air (and with water) to release the flavor and mellow out. Lastly, most good whiskies and whiskeys are 45% ABV and higher. Ethanol is molecular flavor carrier, so the more the better. Enjoy!

Wonderful smell with an underwhelming palate

The nose on this is absolutely delightful- beautifully fruity and fragrant. However I unfortunately find the palate to be quite dull, although I actively disliked it upon my first taste with it. It is certainly not an awful whisky and the second tasting brought about a gentle warming to the taste. I wish I could say more.

More acclimated palate may be required

This is my first peated whisky in a long time and this reminds me in taste and nose of Copenhagen straight chewing tobacco. Not bad, but struggling to find more in it until water is added to bring sweeter fruit flavors. I’ve drank bourbon almost exclusively for 10 years until now so take it for what it’s worth.

Yeah it's alright

Nose - creamy and heavy on apples. Very nice

Palate - sweet, very sweet. Brown sugar. Apples

Finish- bit short but again apples, sweet.

Overall, it's an alright little dram, for the price yeah, I'd pick one up it. Definitely worth it. Reminds me of glengoyne 12.

Superb value

This really was a surprise given some negative reviews (that's whisky tasting for you). Lovely smooth oily mouth feel (much better than it sounds), got the smoky nose and interesting dry finish. A really complex whisky for the price. I'd fully agree with those that have rated it 4-5 stars.

creamy with a kick.

First taste of this and very satisfying. Agree with the tasting notes with an emphasis on the creaminess. It also kicks nice in the back of the throat.
