Laphroaig Lore Bottling Note

Created by Distillery Manager John Campbell, Laphroaig Lore is said to be the richest ever Laphroaig! Named after the skills passed down over the generations, this permanent addition to the range is matured in a combination of casks including first fill Sherry butts and quarter casks and is said to contain some of their "most precious stock".

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Producer's Tasting Note:
Nose: Rich and smoky with seaside minerals with a hint of ash and bitter chocolate drops. Vanilla follows with oily unroasted chestnuts and a hint of fudge with a malty sweetness. A drop of water adds a creamy clotted cream note with fruit appearing in the form of unripe citrus in a flan glaze.
Palate: Richly peaty with a spicy chilli bite.
Finish: Short dry finish and a long sweet aftertaste.

Laphroaig Lore Reviews

balanced peat and sherry

peaty and sherry, well combined and balanced. After breathing, much better. Good price and show reasonable performance.

Sample equals bottle purchase

Best Laphroig. Ok I’ve not had every Laphroig, but it is a delicious whisky. I’m not a huge fan of the classic 10, I think it lacks a punch. But this hits the spot, balance all round.

Good but not what it should be

I liked Lore. But I didn't love it. It had the potential to be really special but the fact that this is a no age statement allows Laphroaig to pack in as much young, brash, harsh whisky as they possibly can: and in my opinion, they certainly did. Definitely tastes much younger than the 10. So far me, the price is totally unjustified.

Poor value

It's good but it's not tangibly better than Triple Wood nor Quarter Cask for the extra 30 quid. I was hoping for something like the 15yo from the 90s but alas not.

Simply A Lovely Laphroaig

This is an amazing whisky with great depth. Yes it I still expensive when compared to some other similar whiskies of similar quality from Islay. Yes it replaced the wonderful Laphroaig 18 and is non-age specific. However, do not mistake this for simply a young whisky. It evidently contains a large proportion of older malts, otherwise it would not have such an amazing array of flavours. Lose your non-age specific bias, your sense of loss for the 18 and simply savour this amazing malt.

Chilli, ash and smoke=GREAT

Totally agree with mr Murray in his whisky bible: This is - a long side Ardbeg Uigadail - the best NAS you can buy. A lot of flavor: chilli, ash, smoke and a long sweet aftertaste.

Great simple peated whisky

Tuath glass showing chestnut. The nose shows moderately intense notes of moss, peated malt, and hints of nuts and caramel. The palate shows moderately intense notes of peat and light notes of charred wood followed by moderately intense notes of savory umami and smoked bacon on the finish.

After 2 drops of water, the peat on the nose seems to grow weaker. Palate weakens significantly as the peat largely fades away and leaves more umami and saltiness. Prefer this one straight.

Laphroaig refined.

I personally prefer this to Lagavulin 16. That being said, there are several bottles $20-30 cheaper that I enjoy just as much. Not disappointed I splurged on the one bottle, but probably won't be purchasing again anytime soon.
