Laphroaig Lore

Laphroaig Lore Bottling Note

Created by Distillery Manager John Campbell, Laphroaig Lore is said to be the richest ever Laphroaig! Named after the skills passed down over the generations, this permanent addition to the range is matured in a combination of casks including first fill Sherry butts and quarter casks and is said to contain some of their "most precious stock".

Tasting Note by The Producer

Nose Pungent peat smoke and seaside minerals with a hint of ash and chocolate. ?

Palate Lively with hints of bitter chocolate, ash and a spicy chili bite. ?

Finish Short, dry finish with a lingering sweet aftertaste. ?

Reviews for Laphroaig Lore
Rich wonderfulness in a glass
Lore is indeed a lovely, rich single malt. Great mouth feel, nice sweetness to counter the peat smoke - great whisky IMHO!

10 Year Old Sherry Cask Finish is better.
Slightly too sweet + rich on the palate for my liking. Perhaps I have more of a savoury palate. I much rather prefer the 10 Year Old Sherry Cask Finish in the same price point.

Pretty good
Had my eye on this for awhile and finally had a bottle. Not what I expected, but not bad whisky. There is more chillies and salt than usually in Laphroaig but it's an nice experiment. Still I would love it to be more smoky and peaty. Considering the price I take QC over this. A nice dram still.

The one
Finally. Finally found the perfect whisky. It’s not a tub-thumping huge explosion of an Islay malt. Just the most well rounded, smoky, peaty, briny, jammy, bacon-y, balanced flavoursome delight of a bottle as I can remember. Long finish. Old stock mixed with new to cover all the bases. Won’t satisfy those who think harsh intensity is the ultimate goal. Yawn. But if you appreciate balance, this nails it. Up with the Uigeadail in my book and maybe better.

Fantastic Dram - complex nose
Is it just me or is this one of the most interesting drams on the nose?

Yes there is the smoky/peaty obviously but salt, like a rocky limestone scent, sweetness of a dried fruit.... and so on and so on. It changes the longer it is in the glass (which I have trouble leaving it in for too long).

Great dram. A little up there in price which is the only reason I'm doing 4.5 instead of 5.

My favourite Laphroig so far...
I found the sample of this version of Laphroig very different and enjoyable in a completely different way to the 10 YO.

Both were nice and whilst the Lore has a stronger alcohol percentage and the unforgettable nose like the 10 YO has, that's where the main similarities end.

Yes, you do get the medicinal/smokey notes, but they change on the Palate and finish to a slightly creamy smooth Palate with a spicy finish that lingers for a short while.

Peat/smoke haters should give it a try
Purchased for my husband’s birthday. I had a taster, and whilst I thought from the descriptions it definitely wouldn’t be up my street I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, there is peat and smoke (not normally on my list), but Lore is also surprisingly silky smooth, and the smoke/peat is more of a pleasant, warm sensation rather than what I’d normally liken to being smacked in the face with a bucket of creosote.
