A fabulous gift set all the way from Islay, boasting a bottle of Laphroaig Lore, matured in first-fill sherry butts and quarter casks! There are also two branded glasses alongside the bottle, suitable for enjoying what is said to be the richest ever Laphroaig.
Rich and smoky with seaside minerals with a hint of ash and bitter chocolate drops. Vanilla follows with oily unroasted chestnuts and a hint of fudge with a malty sweetness. A drop of water adds a creamy clotted cream note with fruit appearing in the form of unripe citrus in a flan glaze.
Richly peaty with a spicy chilli bite.
Short dry finish and a long sweet aftertaste.
$36.11 - $98.68
Much obliged to my parents who got me this for my 50th. It's absolutely lovely. The glasses are heavy and have been rinsed with Laphroaig. The whisky itself is superb. I'm staunchly cash strength and non-chill-filtered, have been for decades. I'm also sensitive to peat, I don't like the flavour of TCP and my gut reacts adversely. So I didn't think I'd like it.. .. It's incredible. Just as the Cognac houses blend vintages, this is an expression of various ages and barrels to design the different stages of scent, attack, mouth feel, decay and afterglow. I thought it would be nasty, seaweedy, dettolly, hairshirty but it's superb. Most of my single malts last me a year. This might well be gone in a week.
