A limited edition expression released by the legendary Laphroaig Distillery in mid-2021, matured for 16 years in American oak casks. Plenty of familiar south coast Islay smokiness, mellowed slightly by the sweetness imparted from the casks, culminating in a rewarding dram perfect for evening sipping.
Roasted nuts and burning peat, with a slow build of maple syrup on pancakes and vanilla pod.
Still rich in peat with a touch of iodine, following by a subtle floral whisper, fresh citrus, and honeyed barley.
Coastal salinity and the last embers of a bonfire.
I read a few negative review and thought I'd try this out as an older laphroaig. This obstreperous teenager needs to learn some manners. As poor quality in taste as the select; save your money and get a bottle of the lore. The triple wood, four oak, and quarter cask are all vastly superior.
One of the best whiskies I’ve tasted, beautifully smoky. Very happy.
Best smoky whisky I have ever tried.
Smoothes out the profile of the classic 10 year old and surpasses the lagavulin 16 for me
An aged Laphroaig often develops a citrus salty flavour along with the phenolic smoke signature. Unfortunately this edition has developed nothing interesting whatsoever. Further, this has not calmed with age and is quite rough. There are much better Laphroaig options for this price
