Lagavulin 1998 (bottled 2014) Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish - Distillers Edition

Lagavulin 1998 (bottled 2014) Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish - Distillers Edition

Lagavulin 1998 DE Bottling Note

A Distillers Edition bottling of Lagavulin single malt Scotch whisky, distilled in 1998 and bottled in 2014 following a finishing period in Pedro Ximénez casks. These Distillers Editions have proved very popular indeed, and with good reason - the Pedro Ximénez finish stands up nicely against the intense coastal qualities of Lagavulin's single malt. Definitely more than worth a go if you're big on your Islay whiskies.

Lagavulin 1998 (bottled 2014) Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish - Distillers Edition

mild för att vara Lagavulin men den är helt klart godkänd även fast jag nog föredrar den 16-åriga

Some kind of heaven

The smoke you expect from Lagavulin with enough sweetness to cut it. Smooth finish but just a touch of a whisky burn. Possibly perfection!

Peace of Islay on your tongue

It feels like there's a party in your mouth and every whiskey lover is invited.

Gentle Islay

This is not the knock in the teeth of a Octomore or Supernova, but smokier than a Bowmore.

Flavorwise it has sweet sherry and butterscotch notes with Lagavulin's signature smoky bbq tying it all together. There's nothing quite like this. And it is fantastic stuff.

If Lagavullin 16 and Auchentash Three Wood had a baby

Excellent. I love Lagavullin 16 and Auchentash Three Wood, and the Lagavullin Distillers Edition is the best of both worlds!

C'mon, you could do better!

Great stuff but the 16yo is better I think.

The Urban Spaceman

I too have a bottle of lgv,4/503. I bought this for a reunion this past summer, half my friends liked it and the others weren't too fond of it, but were glad they got to experience a glass of Lagavulin. It was a little too 'peaty' for them...which to me is the main attraction.

Lagavulin is by far my favourite, and its reputation is second to none, the bottle l consumed (very slowly of course ) is batch lgv,4/503 and was so sublime my only complaint was l did not buy another at the time, not for everyone's palate, but for lovers of Islay malts this is a must and comes very recommended .

Lovely!

Just tried my first dram of this and it is splendid stuff! Complex nose with berry fruits and mild smoke. Sweet, fruity and full-bodied on the palate with a lovely finish. Looking forward to sharing this with the family this Christmas!

Delicate Islay

This whisky is a sophisticated Islay malt with much to recommend it. Massive smoke it does not have but the peat is certainly an integral part of the experience it imparts. For an experienced Islay whisky drinker, it is a great way to start a tasting while moving towards the extra peaty and smoky stuff later.

Everything you love abut Lagavulin 16 just more!

This was my first Lagavulin besides the 16 year… The 1998 distillers addition is a highly smokey and almost has a finish similar to Chloraseptic spray, doesn't sound great but it is. I just don't know how else to describe it. Massive Peat, massive smoke and a long finish that will soothe the trough. Great stuff!
