Label 5 Classic Black Bottling Note

Label 5 Classic Black, is a very well known (particularly in France) blended Scotch whisky, made with a hearty helping of fruity Speyside malts at its core. A great value blend.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Rather sweet with vanilla and sticky toffee pudding. Hints of ginger and cinnamon.

Palate: Apples, pears and a subtle grassy note or two. A little citrus and caramel.

Finish: A clean finish with lemon zest and brown sugar.

Label 5 Classic Black Reviews

Very nice

A very nice tipple that I have recently latched on to 🥃 lovely

1st March 2020

Love it

Love it for the flavor at the price. Can't beat it.have been drinking scotch for 30 years. Wish we had it in Canada

20th February 2020

At the price this is an excellent product

A very pleasant whisky with a very smooth palate

11th January 2020

Cheap, decent.

It's OK. There are much better whiskies out there of course but I doubt you'll find anything better at the same price. Very good on a budget!

27th December 2019

Good blend, but flawed?

It's a delicious blend, but for the past 2 small bottles I bought (And I am from Iceland) has been too raw in taste. Something is not right.

23rd December 2019

Great value

Very enjoyable vfm drink. Outguns most sub £20 bottles imho.

22nd December 2019

Very smooth

The best whiskey i've tasted for the price range. Highly recommend.

11th December 2019

I live it Texas. I've never bought a scotch, this is my first time I'm 21. And it's good. Smooth and cheap. So why not. I dig it

Pretty smooth, though it ain't no Jack Daniels.

4th October 2019

Very smooth just with ice, best bang for buck scotch on the market

17th September 2019

Horrible harsh spirit. Gives whisky a bad name. Only fit for pant stripper

12th August 2019

Just try it

I’m a first timer at this label l brought it from Woolworths and it’s so rich in flavour l like mine on the rocks so l think l have a good idea about scotch. I will buy it again

2nd July 2019

The one for me ,on its own

Absolutely superb.

24th January 2018

a splendid little blend

a splendid little blended scotch, quite surprised as the price would indicate a fairly low standard drink. This is a slightly sweeter type whisky, with stronger malt aroma.
Would recommend this, a bargain and not too bad....

11th January 2018

Well worth a try. Superb value & quality!

I've had this as a present & since bought it for myself. As a blended relatively cheap whisky it surpasses its low price in flavour & smoothness & I prefer it 100% to the Bells, Grouse etc on the same price level. Reminds me a lot of The Balvennie, which is much more expensive.
An excellent value whisky that stands out.

10th December 2017

Presently unsurpassed.

In my opinion this whiskey is the best blended whiskey on the market. I am months short of my 80th birthday and whilst not professing to be a an expert,I stand firmly behind my opening comment. Superb blend puts "favourites " to shame.

28th November 2017

Excellent value for money!!

It one the best blended whisky i have tried, IMO it is superior to the likes of Bells, Flying Grouse. It is more of a single malt.

20th November 2017

The Best blended whiskey with a mixer

For a 50 year old half Scottish man, who was brought up on whiskey, that enjoys nothing but a single malt, and has tried multiple blended whiskey’s, this one was certainly the best, with a dash of ginger wine or lemonade

27th October 2017

Just Do It !

Used to Monkey Shoulders ( triple blend) wh is less peaty. Ok, this is Pretty good, not offensive like, Ardbeg?" a Scotch requiring an " acquired taste according to salesmen".
Conclusion..A Bargain Worth Sampling from Scotland. Yes, both this and Monkey Shoulders, both Scot blends, are Winners

24th October 2017

Tasting note spot-on.

Bought because it was cheap, liked because it does have character and unusual for me, drinking it neat.

22nd September 2017

Good value basic blend

Bought a litre for £17 from Morrison's not expecting much had in on the rocks and pleasantly surprised sweet with a wee hint of smoke not bad for the money

15th September 2017

Most acceptable and pleasant blended!!

Got it as a gift and definitely not disappointed at all!! Really cant understand the very few negative and derogatory remarks and that's coming from a Scottish single malt drinker!!

9th September 2017

Not good, not bad

Bought a small bottle for 89 cents in a checkout line. The smell was very strong and I thought I would end up mixing it. I tried the first sip and it was actually better than I expected and did not need any mixing. No smoke and it has kind of an odd aftertaste, but for the price it's hard to complain.

29th August 2017

Jolly Good

It was recommended to me by the Manager of my local Liquor City and I have to agree that I was both pleasantly surprised and delighted. Highly recommended.

20th July 2017

Smooth and tasty

Excellent whisky, very tasty, smooth. I like it and it is one of my favourite brand.

3rd July 2017

A tasty dram on the cheap.

Exceptional value for money. Very smooth with a hint of sweet smoke. I always keep a bottle around.

15th May 2017

Very nice

Very surprised, I'd not considered Label 5 at all previously, and I find that I have been missing out for years.
A delightful blended whiskey with a soft on the pallet taste of toffee and vanilla - just as described here.
My new favourite blend.

21st April 2017

Cheap and cheerful and only OK with a mixer

On dear! Where to start?
I suppose if you want a cheap whisky to use with a mixer it's OK. If you want a decent blended whisky to drink neat or with water then you may be disappointed.
Personally if I'm drinking blended whisky rather than my preferred single malts I look for something with a good percentage of Islay to get some smokiness, or Highland to get that floral sweetness.
This is predominantly SPEYSIDE which I find too sharp for my taste.
To me, although the taste is different, the quality is about the same as Bells or Famous Grouse which I think have both suffered in recent years.
There are certainly better blended whiskies on the market if you are prepared to pay a couple of pounds more, But if you want cheap and use a mixer the give it a try.

20th April 2017

liquid gold at the price of sand -good stuff

Just had a bottle Easter weekend don't be fooled by the bottle and price and by other well to do whiskies this stuff really impressed us -will definitely buy again

19th April 2017

Will buy again

Enjoyed it pleasant taste

24th March 2017

Scotland's best kept secret...

So Smoooth. Irresistible. A magician has been involved with this blending.

16th March 2017

Well worth a try

Found it on offer at Morrisons thought to give it a try, nice suprise, peaty/smokey taste you normaly find with single malts from the isles, most enjoyable.

4th March 2017

One for the Speyside lover.

One sip had me convinced that this was a blended whisky that suited my taste completely, knew at once the malt content was high and pure Speyside, my favourite.

2nd March 2017

A Classic Black 5

First time to try label 5 Classic Black ! never new it existed until I saw it in Morrisons and I thought I must try it . A lovely whisky very pleasant , and a very pleasantly surprise I got to . I drink a fair amount of whisky over the years, I'm 72 so I no what a good whisky tastes like and that is a good one .

25th February 2017

Smooth and light probably the best whisky I have ever had

10th February 2017

Good stuff!

Love it. First time we have tried it.It won't be the last bottle we buy. Thanks a lot Jean Men's.

21st January 2017

Tastes like smoldering fire

Smells bad, tastes worse. Tastes even worse by the 4th or 5th drink. Do they have a negative star?

27th December 2016

R Breen

This whisky is very smooth on the palet, and in my estimation is up their with quality malt whisckies, but don't take my word for it, try it yourself and see if you agree, thank you.

23rd December 2016

Label 5

Tasteless, nothing much else to say really.

7th December 2016

for a Tenner at Morrison

very good tasting, Teachers still fabby

14th November 2016

Mr bernard garratt

I have tasted this whisky for the first time. In my price range it is the best I have ever tasted

13th November 2016

A Great Tasting Whiskey

I drink only whiskey and indian tonic. Label 5 is my favourite scotch having a wonderful toffee caramel taste not lost when mixed with tonic. Good price and a premium taste I can highly recommend Label 5.

7th November 2016

dave's choice

As good as most but not as good as some but on the whole mix's well with most popular mixer's a good alround drink.

25th October 2016

Very nice

Lovely tasting and good value

5th August 2016

Can't moan at £16-- Nice change from the usual budget stuff

Not bad for £16 out of Morrisons. Is that a slight floral whiff? Unusual. A little wet- a bit like Ballantine's Finest- but with a pleasant young spirity burn. Is there an atom of smoke there? Hard to say-- moderate play of flavours- if you look for them. Nods in the direction of finish-- dry- slightly bitter and woody, short to moderate. Pleasant change if you like the old staples of cheap whisky-- especially since Teachers and Black Bottle lost their magic. It's not as good as old Teachers and BB but better than the bland rubbish that those have become. Won't even bother with Grants and Whyte & Mackay's. Budget blends are getting too generic.

20th May 2016

One of the best

My wife and I have been slurping this nectar of the gods for a couple of years ( a couple every night) and have not found anything else in this range that tastes better. I know there's scotch conniuiers or something like that out there, but this is really good stuff, and a lot of our friends have also joined our Label 5 club. Adelaide River N.T.

9th May 2016

Nice surprise

bought this for £12 on offer at Morrisons, very pleasant dram, undemanding but reasonable quality, citrus notes and a creamy finish, at this price point and higher you can do an awful lot worse

27th April 2016

Surprisingly drinkable

Also got a bottle from the inlaws, didn't even look at it for days, eventually cracked it open and was very pleasantly surprised. Could drink neat or mixed. Tried with Coke Zero and Diet Irn Bru, all went well. Cheap but good value. Not complex, but enough going on to keep single malt drinkers interested.

22nd April 2016

A good basic scotch

If you can find this at a good price or on sale then give it a go, it is a decent inoffensive and smooth scotch, nearly a match (and sometimes better) for bigger 'name' branded blends. That said, it does leave me wanting more complexity as the finish is very short indeed in my opinion, but I can still happily drink it neat, although I'm sure it would really shine as a mixer.

19th April 2016

Nice blended scotch

It's an excellent substitute for Johnny Walker Red. Rocks, splash of water. G00d stuff.

28th January 2016

Brush cleaner

Only fit for mixing with something else to destroy the chemical smell and taste.
So nasty I don't know what to do with the rest of the bottle.
Buy almost anything else instead.

5th January 2016

Bought this a couple of months ago at Morrisons when it's on offer. As I am a beginner to whisky I find it easy to drink. Does any one have problem with the bottle top or is it just me? It can never screw tight, it just goes on and on...

17th November 2015

Value for money

By no means a super whisky, but one does not expect spectacular things from a cheap blend.
Being exactly that, this is one of the best cheap blends one is likely to find.
It seems to be more matured and have a higher malt content than most big brand blends, certainly a better buy than Red Label or J&B Rare.

8th August 2015

Cheap does not mean bad

Got one bottle from the inlaws. Thought it would at least clean the insects from the windscreen of the car. But one really have to have a taste, right ?
And this is really not bad at all. It's a very smooth and clean one, which can go for sipping or - as i have chosen - into coffee and chocolate drinks with plunges of whipped cream. Reason for that is - when I want spey, I turn to BenRiach, GlenLivet and Balvinie. Those however, I'd never use as drink fillers. But this one I can and will and I won't be robbed blind. And if I should forget to add coffee and cream, it won't hurt either. Handy Little thing.

27th July 2015

If there's 1 cheap whisky u don't want it's this one. Absolutely horrible flavor and the smell is horrible as well, almost smells chemical

30th May 2015

good sweetness in coffee

Goes so very well in the coffee and top with cream. Scotch coffee

6th April 2015

Thoroughly enjoy it

Love the aroma! Also the taste!

23rd March 2015

On the rocks please!

A bit to sharp, if it's not 'on the rocks', in my opinion.
