Decidedly smoky rye whisky from the Kyrö team in Finland! The rye used for this expression was smoked with alder wood, which they say can impart hints of smoked ham and campfire smoke. Blend that with the aromatic spiciness of rye and the creamy, vanilla-rich notes imparted by maturation in ex-bourbon, French oak, and new American white oak barrels, and you've got a spectacular spirit on your hands!
Forest floor earthiness, joined by whiffs of Sichuan pepper and freshly baked rye bread with butter.
Vanilla, more pepper, orange oil, a slow build of dry smoke with a little meaty heft behind it.
A long finish, with the smoke taking the spotlight.
Picked up this bottle as I thought it could be interesting, I was not ready for how good it was. I found it a glorious balance of floral notes with a nice round feel backed up with a subtle smoke flavour. Sadly the bottle is now empty, but I'll be picking up another as soon as I can justify it (which might be a short journey for me to make).
Discovered this at london coffee festival - my new go to, so rich and full bodied
A different smokiness to that in Scotland, certainly not peat! A very nice balanced rye with a hint of dry wood smoke. Still has the floral notes of their Malt Rye offering, perhaps the smoke brings out more of the spices.
This is absolutely stunning, caught be be surprise at The Whisky Show I must say but bought a bottle straight away. Velvety smooth with subtle smoke what a joy
A lot of Virgin Oak with this one, reminds me a lot of West Cork, Single Malt Irish Whiskey, they could have done with mixing those Virgin Oak casks with a few seasoned second fill casks, the Virgin Oak is just too powerful and gives too much of a green note, a decent dram and when they reuse those Virgin Oak Casks with their own spirit it will be a better dram for it.
