anCnoc Peat Bottling Note

A smoky and sweet dram made to mark the 125th anniversary of Knockdhu Distillery. Crafted in order to take the drinker on a “mellow journey from the heart of Banffshire’s rich peatlands”, this bottling was matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks and finished in Spanish oak butts before it was bottled at 46% ABV without any additional colouring or chill-filtration, with an outturn of 500 bottles.

The packaging features illustrations to tell anCnoc’s story about the distillery’s heritage, as well as a celebratory copper lid.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Toasted almonds, buttery shortbread and black fruits emerge through refined wood smoke and a hint of gamey meat.

Palate: Seedless raisins, cinder toffee, mocha and winter spices combine initially. Orchard fruits and floral honey lifts the darker notes.

Finish: Tannic oak, citrus peels and earthy peat.

anCnoc Peat Reviews

Peated, sweet, and lovely

Smooth with a nice mouth feel. Peated, but not excessively with a sweet taste which develops as you work your way down the dram, and an excellent finish. No colour or chill filtering. No mention on the packaging that it's sherried, just that it's been aged in "Spanish oak butts" but it tastes sherried to me. Anyway it's very fine.

Beautiful peat, rich, fruity and complex

Beautiful sherry cask notes with peat char and a bit of salty brine. A viscous and complex whiskey with great mouthfeel. I'd go so far as to say this compares very well against Ardbeg Uigeadail.
