A 2001 vintage anCnoc single malt from the excellent Knockdhu distillery matured in second fill American oak casks (barrels and hogsheads) and Spanish oak butts.
Producer's Tasting Note:
Nose: Brimming with freshly squeezed lemons and ripe blood oranges. Creamy vanilla, ground spices and a touch of new leather follow.
Palate: A hint of set lime honey, vanilla and a distinct chocolate presence.
Finish: Drifts off slowly with a zesty freshness.
The nose is just divine: think honey, milky sweets and a tiny hint of white chocolate. You won't want to stop smelling it. After a good 15-20 minutes taking-in the nose, the first sip is just the cream on the cake. That whiff of honey turns into a full stream of flavour; not strong enough to overpower the nose, mind. With both a wonderfully delicate nose and delicate flavour, this is highly uncharacteristic of a Highland whisky, and comes in stark contrast to the 2000 Vintage release - an altogether more powerful affair. Without doubt, this one of the most enjoyable anCnocs I've tried to date.
