Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2018 Bottling Note

Behold - it's the 2018 edition of Kilchoman's Loch Gorm single malt! This expression is matured in sherry casks, making for a wonderful juxtaposition between the classic Islay peat intensity and lip-smacking wine-like sweetness. 15,000 bottles were produced for this particular edition.

Lush

Nice strong sherry influence to the floral smoke especially on the palate. Bought two bottles.

Too expensive

This distillery seems think a lot of itself that’s for sure. All offerings are too expensive for the quality. They are nowhere near as good as other NAS scotch’s yet they want more money. Seems to sadly be the trend lately, producing less quality and wanting more money. Thankfully distilleries such as ardbeg and springbank are still reasonable and have outstanding offerings.

Overpriced

5 or 6 year old whisky for 900 kronor (80 dollar) here in Sweden. A lot of smoke and some sherry but under that you get the unfinnished taste of a too Young whisky.
Buy Ardbeg Ugadail or Lagavulin 16 instead Even Bowmore 15 is better

For half the price it would be ok but no its a no-no.

Islay smoke meets sherry bomb

I had a dram of this in Aberdeen's famous bar, The Grill, and my goodness it is delicious. The bottling note is spot on... is this is a classically smoky Islay or is it a sherry bomb? It is both of these and highly drinkable. If, like my wife, your go-to Islay is Ardbeg 10 then you might find this a little sweeter than usual, but don't let that put you off. This is a very fine whisky.
