The fourth release of Kilchoman's excellent, lightly-peated release, 100% Islay. They used barley grown on the island and completed every step of production at the distillery - a big undertaking, but a labour of love from the Kilchoman crew. To create this release, they used a combination of four and five-year old whiskies from first-fill bourbon barrels (40 in total) and bottled it without chill filtration or added colouring.
Nose: Oranges and ripe nectarines, crumbly pastry and a good swirl of peat.
Palate: Coastal peat comes through first, but this subsides to make way for rich vanilla, citrus and fragrant smoke.
Finish: Very subtle hints of cigar box on the finish, along with more citrus.
Overall: Hugely satisfying, a great release from Islay's farm distillery.

Imagine Laphroaig as a drinkable baby carrying a bouquet of flowers. You've just imagined Kilchoman's 100% Islay. Present: - Smoke that arrives but doesn't overpower, and fades as quickly as a whisper on the night wind. - Freshness that is unusual for Islay whiskeys. - A shimmering yellow tourmaline color made even more beautiful by a few drops of water to froth the oils.- Delight.

The combo of smoke and fruit is simply amazing. The flavour just keeps going on and on; about a minute or so. Very clean and pure notes. A bit like Dalwhinnie 15 on steroids.
