An intriguing release from Taiwan's King Car distillery, presented as part of their Kavalan Solist range. This expression is allowed to mature in casks that previously matured peated whisky - which has imparted a helping of smoke and earthy notes to this single malt whisky.
Fresh peach and guava, toasted almond, a hint of peppery oak.
Oily barley leading to earthy peat smoke. Some new leather richness, balanced by zesty orchard fruit.
Quite long, with hot pepper once again developing alongside vanilla and fruit.
This is an amazing whisky. If you are into heavily peated whisky, this will disappoint you. The peat is just somewhere around and more noticeable on the finish. The overall taste and balance is the typical Kavalan. You get all those complex fruity aroma and well rounded and balanced taste on the palate with that extra punch but smooth finish. I would suggest adding a couple of drops of water or more depending on your preference. So as to release the aroma and to lessen the alcohol impact.
