You know how good the multi-award winning Kavalan Solist Sherry matured releases are? Well the whisky that goes into this permanent addition to the range is the same, brought down to a bottling strength of 46% using Kavalan spring water!
Familiar rich dark fruit, marzipan and spice notes.
Mixed dark spices, vanilla and plum.
Dried fruit and cocoa.
It’s mostly all about Sherry bombs for me and this does not disappoint. Rich, smooth, sherried goodness. I have a Solist version on route and this did much more than tide me over. Will buy again.
This is the bottle I keep for a special occasions. Great sherry flavour.
I picked up a miniature of the 54% Ollorroso Sherry Oak a couple of days ago. It needs water. ? I am not sure it is worth buying over Scottish sherried drams at a similar price point. I think I would rather have an 18 year old from The Highlands for the money but if you can pick it up at a healthy discount I doubt you will be disappointed.
I tried my first Kavalan sherry oak last night, and omg all these reviews are spot on, it's totally balanced and gives us sherry monster lovers the taste & hit we want. At one time glendronach revival was my fav, but since the re-launch of 15 along with other factors well documented elsewhere, they lost me as a customer, but my first taste of Kavalan was reminiscent of what i thought the first time i tried GD 15 a decade ago, i just instantly loved it. I normally leave it a few weeks to get a better grip on a new whisky (to me) before posting a review, but feel there's no need here 5/5.
Along with the Glendronach 21, this is my 'go-to' whiskey. At this price point it's a no-brainer. Wonderfully balanced, rich, complex and exotic palette and puts the competition firmly in the background.
