This is a truly staggering sherry-matured Japanese single cask from perhaps the country's most legendary distillery - Karuizawa. It was distilled in 1984 and aged in a first-fill sherry cask before bottling at natural cask strength!
This bottle was part of a private collection.

Nose: Calves leather and soft smoke. Minty, spiced aromas with hints of sticking plasters and a pound of mashed up Dundee cake.
Palate: Huge and intense, with damp earth and soft peat smoke. Rancio in the substrata, with more than a suggestion of prunes, leather and cracked black pepper. Very interesting sweet/savoury balance.
Finish: Long, spiced finish. Sublimely warming and rich.
