Paul John Classic

The Paul John Classic Select Cask is an unpeated single malt whisky produced by John Distilleries in Goa. It has been matured in ex-bourbon barrels and bottled without chill-filtration at cask strength.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose A big, meaty nose. Stewed apples and pears, freshly-baked sponge cake, golden barley and a pinch of salt.

Palate Lots of honey on the palate, joined by deft spicy notes of cinnamon and cracked black pepper. Glimmers of fruit and dark chocolate.

Finish Juicy fruits and a hint of oak.

Overall Packed with character, this expression is very exciting indeed.

Excellent
Generally I like Paul John whisky particularly the classic and the bold the only off-putting thing is the colour of the liquid which is orange.

Honey tropical fruit bomb
This one is quite good. Typical PJ row barley distillery character with honey suckles, vanilla, and tropical fruits such as papaya, musk melon and pineapple. A bit of peppery note in the finish and overall a good bourbon barrel matured whisky. More so for the price paid. The high ABV works gorgeously well.

Unexpectedly good
Tuath glass showing auburn to mahogany. The nose shows moderately intense notes of carmelized red apple and hints of cooking spice. The palate shows prominent notes of the same carmelized sweet red apples with lighter hints of caramel.

After 2 drops of water the nose shows more pronounced carmelized red apples with hints of caramel. The palate drinks like a fine riesling eiswein - carmelized red apple undertones but mostly a sweet green apple forwardness.

Super smooth with zero burn on tongue. Tastes very different from most whiskies and has flavors of citrus, mango, passion fruit, and a hint of spice.

Totally unexpected rich and complex whisky that needs to be savored slowly. Unbelievable value!
Was pleasantly surprised to find how good this malt is. Being NAS, there is a touch of wariness associated but the first sip puts all fears to rest. I am totally blown away at how balanced and smooth the classic is.

Nevada Camel
I had never before tried an Indian whiskey. Then I got this as a pert of the World Whiskies Awards 2016 Single Malt Whisky Winners Tasting Set. What a pleasant surprise! This whiskey absolutely held it's own with every other dram in the set. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to expand their whisky horizons to include something other than Scotch. A first-rate single malt.
