Behold batch 2 of J.J. Corry's The Gael Irish whiskey, built using a blend of 60% malt and 40% grain, aged in a combo of ex-bourbon and sherry casks. Crated by the Chapel Gate whiskey bonders, this expression is meant to serve as a mission statement of sorts - an example of what the team is aiming for when its own whiskey comes of age. Is this is the road they're heading down, there is some good whiskey coming our way!
Nose: Sugary shortbread, peaches and cream, quite grassy at points.
Palate: Lemon drizzle cake, honeycomb, softly savoury notes of rye bread and thyme in the background.
Finish: Hazelnut spread, apricot yoghurt and mince pie filling.

As I found with the first Batch J.J. Corry has done it again! Great flavors of southern peach and apricot, hints of vanilla and red pepper makes this second dram a great choice to any whiskey lover.

Having recently delved into the finer side of Irish Whiskey I was pleasantly surprised to track down a bottle of The Gael Batch 2. This whiskey shows so much flavour and complexity and has me anxiously awaiting Batch 3!
Have to say I can't disagree more with the review below! I really enjoyed this and the 1st batch; great to enjoy the differences between the two as well. Fruity peach and apricot with a nice pepper spice. A great dram and producer who have got me back into Irish Whiskey again.

I really wanted to like this after enjoying the 1st batch so much but this is a serious disappointment. There's some light almonds on the nose, mild marzipan but not much else. I get grass on the palate, maybe a touch of straw, then a woosh of alcohol burn and not much else. The finish is just non-existent. It's not unpleasant at all but just very bland and very dull for a whiskey at this price point. Redbreast 12 year old absolutely buries this in terms of everything at half the price if you like Irish Whisky. I'm thinking maybe I ended up with a dodgy blend/bottle or something because it's so uninspiring.
