Jura Prophecy Bottling Note

A very peated edition from Isle of Jura, Prophecy is made from a selection of old and rare Jura whiskies. Very interesting indeed.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Some peat, aniseed, oily, dry, pungent.

Palate: Smoky and dry, a muscular, powerful Jura with notes of nutmeg, cardamom, sea spray. Coal tar.

Finish: Good length, with punchy, dry peat smoke and dry herbal notes.

Isle of Jura Prophecy Reviews

Good but you have better.

This whisky is very similar to the Lagavulin 16yo DE. It has a bit of the smell, a bit of the taste, well balance ans spicy... But the Lagavulin is far better, nous doubt.

Great whisky but a bit expensive, still love it,but you need try it if your a islands fan.

Always want to love Jura but they tend to mess it up with chill filtration and caramel.Tried the 10 year old , Supersitition, Elixir, but this is the best, non chill filtered 46% smoke peat but not like Islay leather, sea water, spice, and more smoke. Should have age statement for the price.

Not quite coherent

Can't quite put my finger on it, but it's almost as if the peat was an afterthought. Couple of drops of water open it up a bit, but I disagree it's definitely no match for uigeadail, it's missing the initial briny punch in the face, nor the fruit lingering on the pallet. It's OK at say £35 but not the £49 I paid for it. Lagavulin 16 would have been a better same priced alternative.

Good enough

Pretty good and different. Coastal sea notes, a malt and trace of fruit, balanced by peat, smoke, dry and hot spices. In my opinion this is one of those that should be had neat. Adding water seems to unbalance the taste with the whisky losing it's sweetness and the alcohol becoming too prominent. Good and interesting but not knock out top drawer stuff

Nice and intriguing whisky

It's no Ugi, but it's very nice and intriguing.
On the nose I got a strong coastal, seaspray note, followed by spice, a bit of fruits. No real big peat. On the mouth, very rich, smooth sweet, spicy fruits, a faint vanilla note, followed by smoke and seaspray. Somewhere an earthy (like wet sand) note. Finish is long, smoky and spicy.
Very nice, decently complex whisky. I'll give it a strong 4/5

Candid comments at an office opening

I procured a few bottles for an opening of a new state of the art facility. We all had a wee nip at 7a when the overnight shift left and the morning crew was waking up and coming in. Some candid comments:
"Holy Shit!"
"Damn, this shit is good!"
"Mother fucker!"
"Gimme another"

What a whisky

This was my first venture into Jura whisky. Friend gave me this bottle last year for my birthday.

Utterly amazing. Possibly one of my favourite whiskeys

A mellow and sweet peated scotch.

This scotch is my favorite peaty scotch . I have tried so many scotch offerings and I can enjoy each type from Glenmorangie to Laphroaig . I always go for the older age statement scotch . Prophecy has no age statement , but it is just so good that it has become my favorite peated scotch by a wide margin . Once the bottle is opened it seems to get better each time I pore a dram . I would compare it to an 18 to 21 year other variety scotch offerings . To me it is very special .

A surprise

So first of all, it says heavily peated but it is nothing like a Laphroaig or Lagavulin. It tastes very similar to a Glenfididich 15 year old distillers edition I've been drinking. Very smooth, caramel and BBq taste. A nice whiskey if you can get it on offer (personally I wouldn't pay full price) it's not the cigarette smoke of an islay and lacks the iodine taste. Whiskey does come down to personal taste etc. I prefer a "harsher" peated whiskey. Very easy drinking though, I kept going back for more and enjoyed it more each time. The best Jura I've had

No more Jura, not a bad whisket but nothing special at all!

My first Jura

Nah not really my type, was expecting more!

6th January 2016

Crazy good

So unique, it's peaty but doesn't taste like an islay. The start is kinda hot n spicy but it quickly becomes cinnamon sea spray and follows up with an epic herbal smoke (not like cannabis). Has a lot going on with it that I can't quite explain but I like it it is way different from superstition. The Sugarbear

I have tasted many single malt scotch whiskey over the years and found JURA PROPHECY to be the nicest of them all. The peat flavor is outstanding. Very smooth. A wee doch and doris.

Love this dram. Very nice dry smoke. If you like smoke and Jura...then this is your masterpiece.

23rd October 2015

best saved for Autumn

Amazing drink, so smokey warm taste and great smokey after-taste you'll need at least half a bottle for the full flavour to hit if you are looking for a really smokey [and i mean REALLY SMOKEY] then this is for you! drink well!

Untold Prophecy

Medium peat. Smell of iodine, ocean water, rubbing alcohol. Dry and smoky. Really over powering. See if this is up your alley.

A braw wee dram

Some of my friends say it is too much for them. I think they are crazy it is perfectly a great drink to me being a mere woman and all.

21st September 2014

Decent but overpriced

This is roughly similar to Ardbeg Uigeadail watered down 20%. It's perhaps a bit smoother, but I'd still take the Oogy, perhaps for its *lack* of smoothness. (And I'd take the corry over the oogy any day too). So the price is pretty high considering. But if peat *and* smoothness is important, this is perhaps the finest example; definitely the finest I've tried.

Can't Wait

Although I have not tried "Prophecy" yet,I love the taste of peaty whiskey such as "Ardbeg 10" and as "Isle of Jura Superstition" is one of my favorite drinks, I look forward to an even more peaty flavour from Prophecy.

22nd February 2014

Not so sure

What's happened to this drink I use to love it, I had some last night it tasted like TCP not very nice, Have they changed it in any way?

14th December 2013

Good stuff

I've been sipping this a bit recently and have been very impressed. A nice dose of peat and a smooth finish.

11th December 2013

Smells like the wifes knickers, (very fishy), tastes of heaven.

1st September 2013

Very average

I want some of what these guys were smoking. This is to lagavulin what a backstreet bj is to a night with nigella Lawson. It gets the job done, but you feel dirty afterwards and there's nothing to bury your nose in. Thin, wispy, spices but if this is heavily pleated, I can only assume these particular Scotsmen are as tight with their mud as they are with their cash.

4th July 2013

Pretty good

Very interesting dram to discover! Go for it.

2nd May 2013

Not a good drop

This tastes like shit, I'd give it a miss..

21st February 2013

A contender for me

I like my peaty scotches and up until now Taliskers has been my firm favourite in my drinks cupboard, however now there is a challenger. Prophecy has an interesting nose not unlike others in the same group, but what really sets this aside from the rest is the intense warmth and smoke which lingers on the pallet like a smouldering peat fire with hints of aniseed after the first rush of cardamom and iodine. If iconic scotches then this one has to find a spot in your heart.

2nd December 2012

Best from Jura

For my taste this one is better than any other Jura. Good, balanced, spicy and smoky enough to drop that oaky oilyness I hate on Juras or Dalmores. Do not forget to try Longrow CV and Port Charlotte if you like this one. Povilas

6th June 2012

Amazing nose & finish.

Perfect mix of peaty and sweet for confused drinkers like I who enjoy both ends of the scotch spectrum. Not as dry as the classic Islay malts, but every bit as powerful. Surprisingly sweet nose gives way to intense smoke flavors very reminiscent of Lagavulin, minus some seaweed and salt. Amazingly long finish that you can revive by taking long deep breaths through your nose. This is remarkable.

24th February 2012

Very interesting taste

An aquired taste for new tasters of Single Malt. I really like the aftertaste a lot, it lingers forever.
Well done.

16th November 2011

Jura's comeback!

It looks like the paps did have an ace up there sleeve. Very nice dram indeed. A peated Jura whisky lovely and well balanced. A mixture of spiced and smoke. A lingering finish that no other Jura whisky had before.

20th August 2011

Very special

Delicious songle malt.

27th July 2010
