Jura Prophecy Bottling Note

A very peated edition from Isle of Jura, Prophecy is made from a selection of old and rare Jura whiskies. Very interesting indeed.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Some peat, aniseed, oily, dry, pungent.

Palate: Smoky and dry, a muscular, powerful Jura with notes of nutmeg, cardamom, sea spray. Coal tar.

Finish: Good length, with punchy, dry peat smoke and dry herbal notes.

Isle of Jura Prophecy Reviews

Good but you have better.

This whisky is very similar to the Lagavulin 16yo DE. It has a bit of the smell, a bit of the taste, well balance ans spicy... But the Lagavulin is far better, nous doubt.

Great whisky but a bit expensive, still love it,but you need try it if your a islands fan.

Always want to love Jura but they tend to mess it up with chill filtration and caramel.Tried the 10 year old , Supersitition, Elixir, but this is the best, non chill filtered 46% smoke peat but not like Islay leather, sea water, spice, and more smoke. Should have age statement for the price.

Not quite coherent

Can't quite put my finger on it, but it's almost as if the peat was an afterthought. Couple of drops of water open it up a bit, but I disagree it's definitely no match for uigeadail, it's missing the initial briny punch in the face, nor the fruit lingering on the pallet. It's OK at say £35 but not the £49 I paid for it. Lagavulin 16 would have been a better same priced alternative.

Good enough

Pretty good and different. Coastal sea notes, a malt and trace of fruit, balanced by peat, smoke, dry and hot spices. In my opinion this is one of those that should be had neat. Adding water seems to unbalance the taste with the whisky losing it's sweetness and the alcohol becoming too prominent. Good and interesting but not knock out top drawer stuff

Nice and intriguing whisky

It's no Ugi, but it's very nice and intriguing.
On the nose I got a strong coastal, seaspray note, followed by spice, a bit of fruits. No real big peat. On the mouth, very rich, smooth sweet, spicy fruits, a faint vanilla note, followed by smoke and seaspray. Somewhere an earthy (like wet sand) note. Finish is long, smoky and spicy.
Very nice, decently complex whisky. I'll give it a strong 4/5

Candid comments at an office opening

I procured a few bottles for an opening of a new state of the art facility. We all had a wee nip at 7a when the overnight shift left and the morning crew was waking up and coming in. Some candid comments:
"Whoa!"
"Holy Shit!"
"Damn, this shit is good!"
"Mother fucker!"
"Gimme another"

What a whisky

This was my first venture into Jura whisky. Friend gave me this bottle last year for my birthday.

Utterly amazing. Possibly one of my favourite whiskeys

A mellow and sweet peated scotch.

This scotch is my favorite peaty scotch . I have tried so many scotch offerings and I can enjoy each type from Glenmorangie to Laphroaig . I always go for the older age statement scotch . Prophecy has no age statement , but it is just so good that it has become my favorite peated scotch by a wide margin . Once the bottle is opened it seems to get better each time I pore a dram . I would compare it to an 18 to 21 year other variety scotch offerings . To me it is very special .

A surprise

So first of all, it says heavily peated but it is nothing like a Laphroaig or Lagavulin. It tastes very similar to a Glenfididich 15 year old distillers edition I've been drinking. Very smooth, caramel and BBq taste. A nice whiskey if you can get it on offer (personally I wouldn't pay full price) it's not the cigarette smoke of an islay and lacks the iodine taste. Whiskey does come down to personal taste etc. I prefer a "harsher" peated whiskey. Very easy drinking though, I kept going back for more and enjoyed it more each time. The best Jura I've had

No more Jura, not a bad whisket but nothing special at all!
